All, I just replaced my rear driver side window motor. That was a fun time.

I have looked in the manual and searched the site and cant seem to find any info on my new problems.

The speed of the window. It rolls up so fast is slams into the top rail of car.  Is there away to slow the window down ?

The window is loose in the frame is wiggles with full up.

The window slides back down  1/4 inch or so when rolled up.

I appreciate the help. You all are a wealth of knowledge.

Your window is rising faster than the norm from your explanation and not stopping at the top more softly as it should

Do you have the correct window motor for your application ?
Where did you get the motor ?

Sounds like you are having window track issue for the window to rattle and drop back the 1/4 inch

There is no way —I know of - to slow a stock window motor down  as it should not be necessary with the right window motor

Mostly feels like you do not have the correct window motor for your year Cadillac with the issues you are having with speed and hitting the top so hard

Best I can do with the explanation you gave

Yes you are correct. It goes up to fast and slams into the top of the door frame.

I bought new motor off of eBay. It looked exactly like the one I took out.

How does one fix the window tracking issue ?

Do you have the rubber window bump stop at the top of the vent window? That should keep it from slamming.

I would suggest you purchase a window motor from Jason Edge on this site that will be the correct one for the  car you have

He is at the top of the parts supplies page in the header

Most of the window motors will look the same but could have different calibrations having been used in many different cars with different needs and specs

Regarding the window track

Get a good look at it and see what’s going on for it to be keeping the glass lose

Study the mechanisms movement

You might be able to acquire a new assembly ( or parts needed ) and install it if you see what needs replacing and your skills allow you to do that

Jason could be your source for that also

the scissor motion of the cams is designed to slow down the speed of the window while decreasing the load on the motor, so if your window is going faster than it should, it's because the scissor action is not occurring.

bottom line, one of the rollers is not in the track, either on the lower cam or the sash cam.  The window is in 'direct drive,' so it's moving double speed, and not being contained fore and aft, so it's bouncing and wiggling.

You need to get the panel off and see put it back on track.  if the roller popped off, the regulator is bent, you will have to bend it back or the roller will pop off repeatedly.

Just to add I would say about 1 in 4 regulators have rollers with chunks broken off. They get old, dry and brittle and can break apart with age. I would leave the rear door panel off and get a good light and operate the window with switch plugged into the connector and watch it go up and down after you have confirmed the rollers are good and in the cam tracks.

Just love when the community comes together to get to the bottom of a repair issue from guys with hands on experience and expertise  on  the subject presented

Thank you all for the advice. Finally had time to get back out and take a look.

Window cams are in the tracks and scissoring.

Window is only wobbly on one side, when I rock the window back and forth I can see where the cam is moving  in and out as well. I will get an inspection mirror and check to see if the cam is whole and not broken.,

I do not see a rubber stop. Where would it be located?

Might be as simple as one of those small screws or welds (some use screws some are welded) has come loose where the cam attached to window frame etc. If you end up just needing one of those small flat bevel head screws, I have plenty.

The rubber stop is on the front vent window frame so probably not applicable here. Maybe Fleetwoods and 6 window Sedans have them in the rear but I don't know (I have  a Coupe). I was thinking the felt covered window channels might be worn out but my Coupe has those on the front window channel only, not sure about Sedan rear windows.

Torque converter grab when idling in Drive

Posted by Cliff Johnston on June 14, 2021 at 8:47pm 2 Comments

Hi Everyone, been quite a while since i have been on here.

I have had an issue with the idle on my 64 Coupe Deville ever since i have had it.

With the Idle set high enough that it is smooth, but still a nice idle, the RPM seems only slightly too high for the stall of the Torque Converter. And therefore it tends to sit there and grab and lunge a bit. So until now, i have been putting the car in Neutral at the lights to stop this happening.

I've had the car dyno tuned and…
