List Mates,

My '64 De Ville Conv. front door window chrome trim needs to be replaced.  The chrome on both front door window his getting a little bit of pealing off.

I have the chrome replacement channels, and flat rubber window channel lining tape.  I've watched Youtube videos on how to remove the old channels and seat new ones.

This seems like a fairly long an complicated project because it appears that I have to remove door panels and remove the windows from the doors and then  to put the windows back in the doors and adjust to glide properly.

Because I can be a bit impatient and clumsy at times, I'm a bit anxious about removing the windows from the doors and removing the chrome trim without shattering the glass.  Any tips or things I should consider (like having a professional do it :-). )before I embark on this challenging project?

Once you replace the required parts  in the door  - the chrome and window channels  etc —keep the inside panel off the door off for a while —until you get the window to go up and down as it should from some adjustments that may be needed to get that working as it should

That took me a few days  driving around to get  it right myself

The doors originally had an internal skin to keep rain water from getting to the inside  part of the inner door( cabin side )

It was originally a  kind of treated  wax paper that may possibly  be deteriorated  and gone by now

It can be replaced with 4 mil plastic and duct tape to renew that water protective  barrier that it is

Be sure the weep holes in the bottom of the doors  are free of debris and area  cleaned out  so any water can escape that gets into the outside part of the  inner door  which is separated by the above water barrier

Not much chance of braking the glass as it is thick and would take a lot of  extreme abuse to damage it (  it is shatter proof glass )

A few tips that  should help —get her done

Hello I've been restoring a 63 for way to many years. Down to almost done, but have issue with trans linkage, when column in park shift rod 2 inches short. everything original. been trying to find picture of manual rod hooked up from under car to see position of linkage. was wondering if anybody has access for pictures. I wanted to see if my manual linkage is bent  wrong out of the trans if somebody dropped the trans or something. Doesn't make sense why it doesn't work. Thanks for any input…

Torque converter grab when idling in Drive

Posted by Cliff Johnston on June 14, 2021 at 8:47pm 2 Comments

Hi Everyone, been quite a while since i have been on here.

I have had an issue with the idle on my 64 Coupe Deville ever since i have had it.

With the Idle set high enough that it is smooth, but still a nice idle, the RPM seems only slightly too high for the stall of the Torque Converter. And therefore it tends to sit there and grab and lunge a bit. So until now, i have been putting the car in Neutral at the lights to stop this happening.

I've had the car dyno tuned and…
