Hello all! It is time for a new project, and your input is being solicited.  Initially I had zero movement for the power 6-way seat, but could hear the motor clicking so I knew it was getting power.  Once I disconnected and reconnected the plugs on the relay I had movement. However, it was spotty, and movement would stop. Not just movement, but complete loss of power to the switch. Wiggling the connectors again would return power and movement.  Since I noted a bunch of junk under the seat I decided to remove it, and am looking at cleaning and greasing everything.

I was able to attain full vertical extension, but only about 1” of horizontal movement.  Which brings me to my first issue to fix. Horizontal movement is hanging up.  The tracks are fully extended/retracted, but bumpers at the wnd of the rails are hindering movement.  So, is something misplaced/backwards?

Clean all electrical connections and --especially the grounds
Remove all the wiring from the plug itself to clean them
Polish the metal contacts some then try it again
Very basic but cleaning grounds on these car brings things back to life often

Next would be to disassemble the motor to clean and regrease it removing old hard grease Unless you have a lack of power to the motor
Then address that first

Motors will be disassembled when I find a good grease.  The old grease is getting firm and very sticky.

The seat transmission and seat tracks need to be cleaned of all the old grease and grime.  The horizontal motor on the track has a plug that can come out and hinder movement. The plug is on the opposite side of where the cable connects to the motor. Make sure it is there on both seat tracks.  The tracks can be removed from the seat by removing 2 bolts per track.  I have an old seat cable I use in a drill to move the actuator motors around.

Next is to address the issue of a poor electrical contact where you wiggled the connector. You may need to replace a few of the contact pins in the connectors.

The connectors were attacked first. Cleaned and adjusted to maximize contact. What I am unsure of is the tracks.  This tab at the front of the tracks is what I believe is hindering the movement forward. Makes me think they are in the wrong location.

Tab at the font of the bottom section of the 1964 seat rails points straight ahead, not pointed up. There is also a small plastic sleeve that fits around it that is missing or often cracked. I know I have at least one in VG condition in blue.  See illustration  and then illustration of my 64 CDV below:

The 63/64 Cadillac 6 way bench seats are completely different designs with the 63 being screw drive actuators with the 64 being a fully contained design. For reference here is a 1963 bench seat rail.

Thank you Jason. I will need that sleeve. One was already destroyed. I also need to see if you have a few other things. Email coming in the next few hours.

It is dark out right now at 6AM I will take pictures of the 63 seat tracks when it gets light outside. You can use a bearing grease on the gears and I use a spray on silicone lubricant for the sliders.

Thanks Russ. Any difference between 63/64?

Yes there is. I will take a few pics of a 64 seat track.

Looking at a 63 and 64, yours is the 64 with the tab bent up.

Here is a 63.

Thanks Russ. I appreciate the help.

While working on my trunk lock on 64 Cadillac, I mistakenly closed the locking mechanism while the trunk was open.  Is there an easy way to manually release the lock back to the open position?

Fuel Pump Failure

I'm located in Melbourne, Australia and my 64 sedan de ville is stuck in the garage due to failed mechanical fuel pump. The first after market mechanical fuel pump lasted a few years before it failed & left me stranded 5 hours from home. A hire car and tow got us home. On inspection, I noticed a valve not seated within the housing. I was optimistic, pressed it into place and assumed the pump was good to go. But alas, no. From what I can now determine, the diaphragm pushrod…

Renovation project 1964 Cadillac Deville convertible

To achieve an excellent result of vehicle restoration, it is essential to  manage this task as one manages an industrial project.

To do this we will use a certain formalism of project management and therefore start by defining the need. It is from this that we will deduce the scope, then the time of execution of the…
