what spark plug wires should i use with a Pertronics 3 Ignition?

copper core or Carbon core?

i do now have the Beldon Premium 7mm installed and the resistance is 6.38 k ohm on the longest cable, i believe this is too much resistance.

I have never measured resistance but have been pleased with the Accel 5043K SuperStock 8mm Spiral Core Custom Fit wire set. They have the correct straight on boot, and you can gently wipe the lettering off with Acetone to give it that stock all black look. I used them when I had the Pertronix II setup and for past 10 years with the Pertronix III setup and no issues. Seem to be solidly constructed, boots stay on when you remove from plug and seem to stand up over the years, or decades in my case. Nothing like the flimsy crap AC Delco crappy stock wires they recommend for their newer Escalades... of which 7 boots out of 8 pulled apart when I tried to change plugs a couple of years ago and threw them in the trash and went with the Edelbrock 8.5mm Max Fire wires on both Escalades. Did I mention the AC Delco stuff they sell now is crap! LOL.

Here is what I have run on my 64 CDV for many years now.

thanks for the recommendation Jason.

im not even sure if the plug wires are to blame, when i start the car it runs poorly, very rich, black smoke from the exhaust and has no idle.

changed the spark plugs to no avail, the old ones where black.

If you have black smoke & black plugs you're running too rich. Make sure your choke plate is not stuck closed.

yes the choke is working properly, it appears even when the engine is cold.

i took the upper housing off the carb and checked everything, float boal ok, floats ok. i restored the carb 4 years ago and it did run fine until now.

Did the blk smoke and  blk plugs just start to happen recently ?

Need some background on how this developed

yes, last week when i wanted to drive the car. did run good before, car was standing for a week and nothing was done on it since then.

update!

checked all 8 plug wires, even the shortest one has 3 kohm, so the wires are fine.

checked also the distributor cap with the ohmmeter, also good.

started the car, no idle, runs very rich on low rpms, when the engine stalled, the carb did overflow! on the secondary side the manifold was covered in gas!

so i removed the upper half of the carb again, can someone say if the float bowls are at a ok high, the manual says 3/8 inch, that can not be.

now i have about 1/4 inch, see foto where the screwdriver is...

That baffle looks funny. The folded over metal looks like it should not be there.

i found it!!!

1 of the floats has fuel in it, about half full, you can shake the float and feel/hear it very well.

i dont see a hole or a scratch in the float, but will replace both now. are the Walker 100-94 good or not? these are the only ones i can find online.

assuming the carb must be ok because i restored it couple years ago, i was searching on the ignition first. i did NOT replace the floats back then, these must be the oems. i dont replace a oem part when its ok because the aftermarket parts are mostly crap these days.

Rolan, I have good used original floats and baffles.  Please send me an email; russ@thecadishack.com

Lower Front End Ball Joints

Posted by Logan Robb on May 11, 2023 at 9:04am 7 Comments

Good Morning all!

I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…

1964 power steering sector rebuild

Posted by CHRIS CARLSON on March 20, 2023 at 11:32pm 3 Comments

I'm having my steering sector rebuilt, and considering changing it from 20-1 ratio 4.2 turns lock to lock to 3.5 turns lock to lock @ 16-1 ratio, If i change from a 3 1/4" box to a 3" box i could have a 14-1 Ratio steering response would be faster, shorter distance to turn the wheel to get a response,   has anyone done this? and how do you like it? thank you

I've looked at the usual rubber sources but couldn't find any.
