I have heard that a 66 gear box will bolt right up, and has a better steering ratio.

Try looking in rock auto or your local garages should know of a shop that rebuilds them.

Thanks Russ that might be handy to know.
Only problem is that in Australia Cadillacs of any year are fairly rare

i bought one off RockAuto.  Cost me less than $90+shipping.

I'm not sure if it was the correct box or not given the tightness of the wheel--either way, it was a vast improvement.  Make sure you mark the shafts properly when replacing the box (and coupling--it's easy to get it off a tooth or two.  The notches don't line up perfectly so you're apt to be a tooth or two off.

If I had to do it again I'd split the coupling in two then line up each half before bolting them together.  It's easy to get the steering wheel off a tooth a two so I'd disconnect the the joint in the middle and line up the splined pieces to make sure everything is straight.

Just curious:  but could the steering shaft and wheel be rectified by just adjusting the wheel in the car?   Would this interfere with the turn signal or turn signal cam?

Why dont you rebuild the box? It is cheaper to ship Some O-rings then a stearing gearbox. It is doable. I am also in the proces of reuilding the box. You can adjust the wheel in the car. The turn signal cam is fixed on the steering column.

I found a diagram that illustrates the main factor in determining a spark plug heat range that I was trying to describe to you during the chapter get together.

Here it is:

The main factor is the length of the ceramic insulator from the middle of the spark plug to the tip (where the spark happens)

The insulator…

Lower Front End Ball Joints

Posted by Logan Robb on May 11, 2023 at 9:04am 7 Comments

Good Morning all!

I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…
