The steering column should not  ever get hot

Are you the same fellow who posted this a short while ago or is this a new post on the subject ?

You must have a hot wire that is grounding to the  metal column for that to be happening

Need to get into the column and  visually see what is going on in there

The steering wheel needs to come off to get in there

The turn signal switch could be the problem as the green wire there can wear off the wire covering which was my problem with the side cornering lights not working as they should that I repaired on mine

Go to the top right of the home page and put in - Steering wheel removal ( in search )

Scroll to the bottom of the first page - you are looking for the post that reads - Steering Wheel  removal- looking for the cornering light wiring connections in the column ——the heading  when it opens

That post should give you some test procedures before you remove the SW and tips on removing the SW and the info to get into the column signal switch

That post gave me what I need to know to repair mine and I added some tips in addition

The info —-is Only applies to a non tilt wheel

Enjoy

Hi

thanks for the helpful reply

I have a 63 series 60 convertible with tilt steering

this is a new post

That would indicate you are the second person to have your hot column issue

I do think the last fellow had a tilt steering as well which is very different than what I have

Sorry I cannot be of more help but other should respond that have  a  non - tilt steering column

Best I can suggest is that you inspect all column wiring for possible issues of any kind

Enjoy

Pull up - hot steering column - in search to find the first guys post on your subject

He was indicating he got a  big shock from his horn ring when pushing both sides down-  once

That is reminding me that some kind of horn ring insulator on the non- tilt SW was possibly the problem in the first case that may apply to your problem with the hot column

Be sure you are only looking  at non- tilt diagrams that apply

Enjoy

Lower Front End Ball Joints

Posted by Logan Robb on May 11, 2023 at 9:04am 7 Comments

Good Morning all!

I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…

1964 power steering sector rebuild

Posted by CHRIS CARLSON on March 20, 2023 at 11:32pm 3 Comments

I'm having my steering sector rebuilt, and considering changing it from 20-1 ratio 4.2 turns lock to lock to 3.5 turns lock to lock @ 16-1 ratio, If i change from a 3 1/4" box to a 3" box i could have a 14-1 Ratio steering response would be faster, shorter distance to turn the wheel to get a response,   has anyone done this? and how do you like it? thank you
