I find it interesting that Cadillac raised the intake manifold over the engine block ( air space around it ) making it a bit of a high rise manifold which would make me think they were trying to get the manifold to work in a cooler enviroment than if it was directly on top of the Block as many other engine designs ( ex: chevy )
The added height allows more fuel to collect in each pendulum in the intake
Then they put very hot exhaust gases thru the manifold to warm it and the Base of the Carb which seems directly opposed to the first idea
The two concepts just seem directly opposed to each other

My stock engine performs just great with the stock manifold and my newer Edelbrock 1406 carb -- so good that i will not be changing anything but the design just seems to be a strange combination of design thoughts to me that oppose each other

Performance minded people ( car racing ) are usually trying to reduce the heat at the Base of the Carb to cool the fuel mixture making it more dense ---so why do the GM Cadillac designers have a need to bring High HEAT to the Base of carb with this engine design ?

iT IS MYSTERY TO ME --but it works well in this engines design

Tony I believe it wasn't necessarily raised to avoid heat but rather to give a straighter shot to the intake valves. If the intake was dropped an inch to seal to the top of the motor it would have created a hump going into the head. Although you want turbulence in the plenum this is not the best way to get it.

I see your point about the the flow to the intake valves With the head design
I used the incorrect word for the Plenum
Thanks for the correction

Yeah, but once all that yummy fuel and air hits the cylinder heads, it just runs around the place like a bubble in a piss pot.

The heads themselves, while they work.... sort of ok, are the worst design ever.

The only reason the stuff lights up with a spark plug is because its just about rooted from the convoluted trip its just made.

The fuel and air would set fire to itself if it could, just to get the hell outta there and down the exhaust pipe.

The interesting thing is, if the engine had a good set of heads on it, these motors would be a bullet.

I'd love to get these heads worked on. Set up on a flow bench they could be tweaked nicely. But you guys know I like to keep things original.
Jesus Tony I missed the "pendulum" in your post. Big Kev and Anders must be asleep at the wheel. I should have been all over you for that LOL

Dash removal

Posted by Jake Mickley on October 9, 2019 at 12:06am 9 Comments

Hello everyone,

On a 63 CDV, if a guy wanted to remove the entire dash to get all the metal painted, and do some other things behind there, how would he go about doing that?  I checked here and the shop manual, but can't find a complete guide.

As always, and help or direction is appreciated.  Thanks!

Introducing myself

Thanks for letting me join the club.  Picked up this ‘64 Coupe Deville a few months ago out of Beverly MA, the car has few stickers on it from various Cadillac clubs, didn’t know if anyone might recognize it from it’s “Glory days.” Everything seems pretty healthy except for the body and some very Mickey Mouse repairs, was wondering if anyone had any leads on…
