I just read an article about a drag race engine producing 2500 plus HP using a TH-400 trans behind it
Sure the trans was modified some to handle that kind of power but was still a big ( good ) surprise to me
Often seeing drag race cars with 1000 to 2000 HP these days on the tracks in drag racing
The TH-400 trans being the first of it’s kind in 64 was overbuilt as the newer years internal trans parts were changed no dough to be saving GM dollars ( less clutches in newer ones )
I very seldom since 2006 have seen one of these transmissions requiring a rebuild while many have had issues with the Jetaway Hydromatic over the same period of time
Just recently a couple of issues have come up with the TH-400 trans needing service from small issues to a complete rebuild on our site ( time and mileage taking its tole )
It is this tans Torque Converted design that allows this trans to have instant power available at any given moment it is required ( always ready to put power to the ground if called on at any speed )
Mine has only required a speedometer gear replacement due to a trans leak that developed in that area and was an easy fix once realizing changing the gear ( same number of teeth )and not it’s seal was the solution to repairing the leaking
The gear shaft itself had worn down allowing trans fluid to be seeping around it and out the seal
Hope do you HATE oil leaks under the car as much as I do !!!

Good Morning all!
I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor.
