Hi

Who makes the best quality transmission mounts for my 64 Sedan DeVille (with a Turbo hydramatic)? Rock auto does not list them.

Thanks!

I know Steele Rubber will revulcanize for $135. Kinda steep so you might check around. Here is the link:

Caddy Daddy has a repro for $79, and rebuilt for $145, plus $100 core. I purchased the repro and it looked pretty good, everything lines up. It is presently on the transmission, but the driveline is still out of the car, so I have not used it under power yet.

Here's a link to the repro -->  https://www.caddydaddy.com/shop-parts.html?cat=580&prod_year=498

Thanks. I don't think my current one is bad, but it is still original and there's no reason not to freshen it up. Question: Do you have to take the driveshaft out to replace?

Thanks

Norm

No, You shouldn't have to. Loosen all four bolts first, then remove them. Get a small piece of plywood or something that fits against the transmission oil pan, then jack it up a little with the wood and a floor jack. You should be able to slide the old mount right out. I don't think you would even need to disturb the crossmember itself.

In my case, the trans had a massive leak in that location, and the oil destroyed the rubber part of the mount. If that seal is bad, the driveshaft DOES have to come out for that.

Thanks!

One more dumb question. Does it "relieve" the weight on the tranny to loosen the driveshaft center support bolts thereby allowing a bit of upward movement of the drive shaft when the tranny is lifted? Or am I overestimating the amount of travel required of the transmission in order to permit the removal of the mount?

Thanks

That would probably be a good idea. It would provide some slack for movement.

Thanks!

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
