Hi all, newbie here. Great forum!
I have 64 Series 62 I just got and trying to fix a few minor things. The headlights are stuck on high beam, no matter what I do with the dimmer switch and guide matic knob. I read it can be bypassed, so I followed the instructions from a previous post.
I routed wires from the 3-prong connector from the firewall relay directly to the dimmer switch. Now I have no lights. I made sure the connections were clean. I even swapped the bottom 2 prongs left to right to see if that made a difference. What am I missing here?
Do I need to do something with the 2-prong connector on the relay? I notice there is a gray wire there, and also a gray wire on the original 3-prong connector to the dimmer. Does this gray wire need to be routed to the dimmer?
I hooked it back up the way it was, and works again, but only on High beam.

Also, is the red wire that connects to the right side of the dimmer switch supposed to have 12v power? I'm not getting any voltage with a test light, with the headlight switch on or off. Also no power coming from the terminal on the dimmer switch the red wire connects to.
I don't see a red wire coming off of the dimmer switch on the wiring diagram, so I'm stumped.
Well it turns out I also had a bad dimmer switch. Sure looked original to me. I put in a standard 61-79 GM switch and now the lights work as normal.
Is the bad dimmer switch an Guide matic switch that has the extra post? if so, I'd like to get it from you.
You can disconnect the guide matic system if you want to. Just take the 3 pin connector off of the relay and route it to the dimmer switch. Plug it into the dimmer switch.

I'm having my steering sector rebuilt, and considering changing it from 20-1 ratio 4.2 turns lock to lock to 3.5 turns lock to lock @ 16-1 ratio, If i change from a 3 1/4" box to a 3" box i could have a 14-1 Ratio steering response would be faster, shorter distance to turn the wheel to get a response, has anyone done this? and how do you like it? thank you

I've looked at the usual rubber sources but couldn't find any.

Hey guys, I need some help. Could someone send me some pictures on how the first hood release lever on a factory 1964 Cadillac is set up, where it comes though the grille. Not the secondary one. I need to know where the thumb or finger position is located through the grille. Is it above or below the center grille molding piece? Mine seems to be positioned behind the center molding piece and will not adjust above or below the molding. I have a wire tied to it to release it…
