Jason is posting transmissions in his selling thread. Should give you an idea what he is charging. My guess is that he is a bit cheaper than the back street seller. The good thing with buying from Jason is that you get what you pay for and if any problems you will get 100% assistance. Check what it would cost having the transmission sent from Jason, using engineshipping or similar service. If you get a reliable and trustworthy transmission locally for less then go for it.
Most of these transmissions for sale will have to be rebuilt at a large expense due to being without fluid in them for a while being 50 plus years old and the gaskets and seal drying up while out of the car without the fluid in them
The turbo 400 trans —is so very bullet proof that I have not seen one that required rebuilding —-on this site since 2006 so I assume there is not a lot of demand for them for that reason ( new for 64 )
There are constantly hydromatic trans that need attention or rebuilding of some kind over the years on this site
The other Extremely Important issue is —you need to be replacing the same trans you now have in the car —with the same type trans that is coming out of that car ( cannot swap the two )
You cannot be putting —a turbo tans ( the better trans reliability wise ) in a car with a Hydromatic the trans needs to bolt up to an engine that has ———the correct crankshaft in your engine —to be doing that
The engines crankshaft end on the trans side of the engine —-are different sizes for the two trans —and you will be —breaking flywheels if the you install A turbo trans on an engine that had a Hydromatic stock

There has been a lot of heated discussion about location and shipping. I have deleted these replies as they do not help answer the question. I will just say I charge $150 for good used 1964 Turbo Hydramatics. I charge a lower rate because I do factor in the fact these are heavy and shipping can be expensive for most people.
My suggestion if you are buying, is to factor in what it will cost you to pick up or transport the transmission.
My suggestion if you are selling, is to give as much information as you can. Include the location, weight (200 lb with torque converter or 155 lb without) and any stipulations regarding shipping (will you charge extra to strap down on a palate, do you require payment up front) . Also include as much information as you can about the condition of transmission.
- Did it come out of a good running shifting car or is that unknown.
- Is the fluid nice and pink red like new fluid, or does it have a brownish hue with a burnt smell
- Do you have any documented maintenance or rebuild on the transmission.
Also, pictures can help sell anything. When I pull one with a large % of the original Cadillac blue on the casing I always include a picture. Pictures can help sell anything as someone can actually see what they are buying. I always have a hard time sending big money for anything used when I don't have a picture.
Price.. that is up to you. I have over a dozen for $150 sitting covered on a palate. Four are known from good runners, shifting cars. I am in central NC. I am not in a hot bed of old Cadillacs like up in the North East or California so most of mine have to be transported by a national carrier. Given the fact this is a 1 year only transmission, I would think one from a good shifting car should command over $500 ... but again I have 12 on palates. I know that probably 4 out of 5 customers that contact me for one are turned away due to shipping. That is one reason I have continued to adjust my price downward. 10 years ago I sold them for $250 each. That is about the extent of advice I can offer.
