Was under the hood — so took a minute to look around and — very slightly tighten down —all hose clamps regarding the vacuum hoses and the fuel line hoses
Glad I did that —as I notice that the aluminum splitter at the rear of my Edelbrock Carb ( or the stock Carter carb ) of my 64 - 429 was not as tight as it could and should be
This is the vacuum line for both the brake booster and the shifting of the Turbo 400 trans —-so a very important vacuum line for those reason
Removing and inspecting the connections I saw that the plumbers tape I used to seal the treads ( in 2006 ) had broken down over the years so cleaned all threads and installed new plumbers tape and fixed my issue
Very important to have a good vacuum seal ( air seal ) at that connection due to the importance of the two system it controls
Just a heads up as that was what I found poking around today l
Enjoy

Agreed. Vacuum is used to control a lot of stuff on our cars. Even a tiny leak can affect operation.
Suggestion: If you've already replaced the hose, thread sealant, checked for other breaches in the system, etc, and still have a leak...try double-clamping the connection.
Same is true on heater/radiator hoses. Double-clamping has helped me out many times over the many decades.

Good Morning all!
I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…

I'm having my steering sector rebuilt, and considering changing it from 20-1 ratio 4.2 turns lock to lock to 3.5 turns lock to lock @ 16-1 ratio, If i change from a 3 1/4" box to a 3" box i could have a 14-1 Ratio steering response would be faster, shorter distance to turn the wheel to get a response, has anyone done this? and how do you like it? thank you
