Good afternoon to everyone and Happy Thanksgiving. Does anyone have any idea if these can be serviced or know of where I can acquire a good replacement part. The reason I'm looking is because my lights get super dim at idle. What's y'alls advice on this topic?
Take the regulator out and clean all the terminals to shinny metal
Be very sure to clean the firewall surface where it gets bolted in as that is the ground which is most likely causing intermittence from age
That often gets the electric good again
Clean the batteries negative terminal and it’s extension wire —to the frame to shinny metal —which is under the battery tray ( your main ground connection)
Tony, thank you you are always so knowledgable on these issues. I will do this and report back soon on my results. Happy thanksgiving!
What is the voltage reading at idle?
11-12 at idle, seems to vary but I forgot to check it in gear. I think I will try cleaning all of the connections and try again. Am I better off converting to an internally regulated alertnator?
You voltage at the battery terminals SB 13-14 v at an idle and above —so not right yet
No need to check v in gear
I myself see no need to go to an internal regulated alternator
A good chance all will get right when you do all the terminal and ground cleaning to shinny metal
Clean the bolt treads and the firewall surface as it is the ground connection
You can remove the female electrical clips from the harness to clean them
They are held in by a small piece of metal that catches on to the harness inside it
Use something to release the metal piece and they slide out to clean them
Let us know how you make out
