Hey Guys, my 429 has a Water Control Valve on one of the heater hoses. Coolant is leaking from the top vacuum port. Does anyone know if I can just remove the valve and splice the hose together? Do I really need that valve even if I never use the AC or heater? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks..

You can splice the 2 heater hoses together. A simple coupler is all you need.

As Russ indicated splice with a coupler.  My 64 CDV came with AC/Heat but have only used the Heat for 10+ years (will address AC in near future), and have had a coupler on mine for many years. Only drawback is you will have a bit of extra heat from under the dash in summer time since the heater core will be filled with hot water/coolant from radiator. I have pulled in parts cars where people put in shut-off valves for summer time. I even remember one person had an outside hose spigot type turn handle on it!

Thanks Jason, you and Russ are true Gurus in my restoration quest. Why am I not surprised you took Best Of Show. Congratulations. Thanks again...

Thanks,Russ . Your posts always have very useful experienced- gained knowledge. Thanks for taking the time...

Yes, a manual valve would be ideal. You can open it by hand, when it the cold winter months.

The C4 Corvettes use a manual shut off valve. I have one on mine. It works well because those cars hold a crap load of heat. Almost unbearable in the summer time.

I think a 5/8" Ball Valve is in order at this time. Great tip.

Is the hot water valve on a 64  normally open ? and therefore needs vacuum to close?

The 64 water control valve for an AC car is open with no vacuum.

Murray 74612 is a new heater control valve that I have in stock. It is a single vacuum connection, and will fit in the area of the original valve. The metal tab on the valve cover will need to be widened to accept the new valve.

I have them in stock for 20.00

1963 Eldorado convertible boot

Posted by Les Eastling on February 27, 2020 at 10:33am 1 Comment

I need a used convertible boot for a 63 Cadillac convertible - condition or color is not an issue since it will be used as a pattern for making a new one. One from either a 62 series convertible or an Eldorado would work. I know I am searching for hen's teeth here... but you never know unless you ask!
