Installing torsion springs on trunk hinges

Ok.....I replaced the drivers side hinge on the 63 SDV. I thought it would be a straightforward reassembly process. It has been several weeks since I took the springs off. I just can't seem to figure…Continue

"Buy a quart of Trans X and put it in. Start the car and let it idle until it warms up. Then drive it if you are able. That will soften up all the rubber parts and make it work correctly again. If it doesn’t, then you have some other mechanical…"

Found a sweet deal

Posted on May 28, 2014 at 6:48am 4 Comments

Took the 63 Caddy to a local event last weekend a a guy comes up to me and says he has a 63 I might be interested in. It was a running car he bought and was going to do something with but a couple weeks ago a wind storm blew a tree over and it fell across the back fins and broke the back glass. He wants to sell it as a parts car to someone rather than crushing it. I found a local guy that has a back glass but I need to find someone who has a parts car I can get a section of the rear fins from.… Continue

Trunk hinge issue

Posted on May 26, 2014 at 8:14am 1 Comment

Been having an issue with my trunk lately. The drivers side has been slowly moving rearward. I adjusted it a couple times and got it back where it should be. But the last time I adjusted it I was at the limit of the slotted holes. This weekend I took it to a two day event and was opening the trunk more than usual. It got so bad it wouldn't latch. The space at the gap was about an inch and a half and it was getting worse every time the trunk was opened. I tore into it yesterday and discovered… Continue

Need some help guys and gals...

Posted on May 13, 2014 at 9:50pm 1 Comment

I'm hoping some of you are into more than one era of Cadillacs like me. I also have a 56 CDV that I'm working on. Motor is at the machine shop and I found out yesterday that one head is damaged beyond repair. I need one head casting #1465406-7 or a pair of later heads. I would even consider a later 390 motor from 61-62. If anyone can help out or knows someone who can , please let me know.

Side moulding clips

63 6 window sedan de Ville....I need to find some side moulding clips so I can put the last two pieces of side trim back on. The remains of the ones that are on it look to be the universal type. Anyone have a picture of the original GM clips?

Spark Plug Heat Range

Posted by Patrick Westphal on July 7, 2023 at 10:00am 3 Comments

I found a diagram that illustrates the main factor in determining a spark plug heat range that I was trying to describe to you during the chapter get together.

Here it is:

The main factor is the length of the ceramic insulator from the middle of the spark plug to the tip (where the spark happens)

The insulator…

Lower Front End Ball Joints

Posted by Logan Robb on May 11, 2023 at 9:04am 7 Comments

Good Morning all!

I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…
