63 A/C

Posted on May 23, 2014 at 11:02am 0 Comments

The previous owner of my 63 Sedan seems to have retrofitted the compressor to 134a. The Problem is I think compressor is bad (low suction) and I'm not sure what he did as far as upgrading any of the other components. I was considering going to a newer style compressor, since being original isn't my main concern. Has anyone had experience with a Sanden compressor, I was speaking with OLD AIR PARTS and they have kit for the compresses that comes with the mounting hardware, exp. valve, Dryer,…

Does anyone have any experience with buying Hardware brake kits (Front Drums) from local auto parts store, like Oriely or Autozone? Looking to get the springs they seem to have the brake hold down kits just not the springs.

1963 Fuel filter Bowl question

Posted on March 17, 2014 at 12:00pm 2 Comments

It seems as though i don't have the correct fuel filter for my 63 sedan. It's an AC car and the filter i have on there now is standard plastic filter with 2 ends. I have the return line blocked off, i'm not sure how safe this is it was done by the previous owner of the car.

I would like to get the correct filter on there with the glass bowl, would anyone have one of those? I also need the line that goes from the pump to the filter since it's been cut and has had rubber fuel line…

sorry i havn't gotten back sooner. I took about a 4" piece of alluminum and made a bracket to hook the TV rod to, I positioned it to aproximently where the rochester hookup was and adjusted it from there. Works great now shifting is smooth

That's awesome!  I always thought about doing that, but didn't want to take a good manifold to the machine shop.

Several years back, I had the same issue, couldn't get the o'ring to seal. I took the manifold to a local machine shop and had them dress down the nipple and press on a brass sleeve. I still use two o'rings for security, but it seals without sealer or having to make a washer to compress the o'rings.

Frank, if you post to the message board, everyone will see your message.

Have you disconnected the bowdens cable from the switch, to see if the switch works?  I can refurbish the switch, if it is not working correctly.

1963 series 62 convertible transmission issue

Posted by Matthew VanDeWater on June 22, 2021 at 3:03pm 1 Comment

Hello I've been restoring a 63 for way to many years. Down to almost done, but have issue with trans linkage, when column in park shift rod 2 inches short. everything original. been trying to find picture of manual rod hooked up from under car to see position of linkage. was wondering if anybody has access for pictures. I wanted to see if my manual linkage is bent  wrong out of the trans if somebody dropped the trans or something. Doesn't make sense why it doesn't work. Thanks for any input…

Torque converter grab when idling in Drive

Posted by Cliff Johnston on June 14, 2021 at 8:47pm 2 Comments

Hi Everyone, been quite a while since i have been on here.

I have had an issue with the idle on my 64 Coupe Deville ever since i have had it.

With the Idle set high enough that it is smooth, but still a nice idle, the RPM seems only slightly too high for the stall of the Torque Converter. And therefore it tends to sit there and grab and lunge a bit. So until now, i have been putting the car in Neutral at the lights to stop this happening.

I've had the car dyno tuned and…
