First I will start by saying, I am a newbie. Recently purchased a ´56 HT, which has a 390" from a ´63 in it. I have decided to put a new Holley on it, but not 100% sure which one would be the best…Continue
I have to second your thoughts here as that is excellent advice for any 63 Rochester carb due to the TV trans shifting rod issues involved
A nice thought that changed my first thoughts on the subject
As you have a 63 engine —with a stock Rochester carb I would second rebuilding the carb mostly because the trans shifting is controlled by the carbs side bracket and TV rod which is not easy to duplicate on an Edelbrock carb…"
"I do remember you acquiring the Holly carb on an intake manifold back when —but was sure you never used it for yourself on your own 429 so I still do not know of anyone that is using that set up on one of our year Cadillacs on a daily…"
"Just fyi, I bought an engine in 2020 from a NC contact that had put a Holley Avenger on his 1964 Coupe de Ville with the 429 and said it run great! He was doing a full LS swap as he was doing a full-on resto mod and wanted had the engine up…"
The Edelbrock 1406 WB my choice for your 63 390 engine - but do discuss it with the techs by telephone ———they are super helpful
Edelbrock bought the wrights to the Carter carb and made a few improvements…"
"It turns out is not a Carter, but a Rochester 4 jet, that is currently on the motor.
I havent been able to find much info on this one. Does not seems to have been on the 390 back in ´63, but does anybody know what year and model it might…"
"Hi Tony and Ginny 429
Thank you very much for your answer.
The only reason I was leaning towards the Holley is that my local motor guru prefers it over the Edelbrock.
I think I will look more into the 1406 before making my final choice."
"As a young man I drove my dads powder blue 55 convert ( wht top ) after high school so I know what owning your 56 HT is about
Its about a lot of round shapes and big front bumpers
Sounds great with the upgraded drive…"
The Carter carb —-came stock on some 63 390 engines from the factory
It is a top notch carb still used in race applications today
Edelbrock makes a 1406 with an electric choke that is a direct…"

I have decided to put a new Holley on it, but not 100% sure which one would be the best choice.I am leaning towards a 600CFM Brawler w. vacuum secondary. Am I completely off or?And would I need a adaptor plate between carburator and manifold? Does anyone know which one?Regards Henrik Sonne(Denmark)See More

As I am collecting items for a brake overhaul, I’ve have come across many posts about the aftermarket drums not being of quality like the originals. I am fairly certain the drums I have are not…Continue
I have a very reputable blasting and powder coating shop near me, come this winter, I am thinking of getting my wheels power coated in preparation for new tires in the spring. Is this a good idea? I…Continue
Hi there, after a lot of work on my brakes - new cylinder, hardware, shoes, hoses, going back to old drums, the car still drags to one side. Does this for years now, but I hoped to get rid of it…Continue
Dad passed away in 2020...I inherited his 1963 62 series convertible....it had been sitting since 1997...I put in new gas tank...new fuel filter...had a new head installed with hard valves (to run on…Continue
I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…
