1964 Cadillac AC with a 7 port Vacuum control valve

Posted on August 24, 2017 at 3:00am 28 Comments

Is anyone having the same problem I'm having ? In park with AC on no vacuum at the fast idle diaphragm, ( so the fast idle diaphragm is out and bumping up the idle) when I put it in drive I'm getting vacuum there. So in park with the AC on the engine is idling at 900 RPM's put in drive it drops down to 450 600 ish. So when your sitting at a red light it feels like the engine is starving for fuel not to mention it's running hotter than it should.…

Can't sleep thinking about my car, am I alone in this ?

Posted on August 23, 2017 at 3:23am 20 Comments

I have had my 64 13 years and I think I might be on the right track to fixing my AC. I think I might have the vaccum lines going to the check valve before the neutral safety switch at the bottom of the steering column in the wrong configuration and Im not sure where the black line going from the power servo rotary valve number 6 vacuum line is going.

Haha yeah, I've heard that is the holy grail of AC repair manuals. I'll need it when I replace everything.

If you decide to take it on again you should get the AC BOOK FOR DUMMY'S for Cadillac Tim        $45 bucks & you will not end up Bald like me :)

Hey Joe, I did have the AC working for a short time and it was ICE COLD. The car must have not been checked for freon leaks, because a short time after I paid a pretty penny for the R12 freon recharge, it all must have leaked out. Before I had the chance to really go through and try it all again the compressor froze up and most likely wrecked every other component connected. So I put repairing the AC on the backburner for awhile. The best advice I can give you is try recharging the AC, check THOROUGHLY for leaks, and pray.

To be honest I told myself I wouldn't contact him until he calls me & I haven't. He has been doing a grate job and I know I'm lucky to have found him. I have given him 2 other $10,000 paint jobs for cars of friends of mine so I know he wants to get mine done & right ( I hope & pray)  Here is a picture of the truck he painted,I saw it at the the car show which is how I got to meet him.

Tha car is comming along real nice
Many of us would love to be doing the same
All due respect, do keep in touch with the shop on a regular basis , so you keep them on there toes and moving along
It just seems that is necessary when getting most things done correctly
Just my 2 cents

Thank you Jason, it's funny my ex girl friend told me once, if you have to put $250 into your Caddy you don't blink an eye, but if you have to put free air in the tires of your truck you get annoyed

Spark Plug Heat Range

Posted by Patrick Westphal on July 7, 2023 at 10:00am 3 Comments

I found a diagram that illustrates the main factor in determining a spark plug heat range that I was trying to describe to you during the chapter get together.

Here it is:

The main factor is the length of the ceramic insulator from the middle of the spark plug to the tip (where the spark happens)

The insulator…

Lower Front End Ball Joints

Posted by Logan Robb on May 11, 2023 at 9:04am 7 Comments

Good Morning all!

I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…
