At long last I finally have power vent windows! I started collecting the parts 3 years ago. The one thing I could not find until recently is the 6 button driver's switch. Jason finally pulled one in and was more than generous with pricing. Thanks Jason! Installing the vent window motors was the easiest part of the project but many other tasks were spawned by this project.

There is a hole in the door panels where the window crank was. I considered putting a hub cap emblem there but ultimately decided to add power locks and to install the door panel switches in the window crank holes. There is very little room between the door and the door panel so I had to shave the pins on the switches and make some side terminal connectors for the wires.

If I add power locks, I might as well add a keyless entry controller too.

The keyless entry controller has a trunk release output so I might as well add a power trunk release actuator too along with a trunk release button in the glove box.

For some 50 years (even since my grandfather owned the car) I have seen the "TRUNK" tell-tale light lens between "GEN" and "OIL" on the dashboard and always wanted to see it light up. It's not wired without the factory trunk release so time to wire that up too.

Find the vacuum leak causing the A/C doors to malfunction. Turns out it was the 20%-100% vacuum power unit. Possible to replace with the dash pad off but not fun.

Fabricate new window up-stops which were rusted away in the passenger door.

Find and fix any other problems in the doors and dashboard while they are uncapped.

All of this took about 1 month with alternating periods of happiness and frustration. Now that it is all done I'm very satisfied with the results. Pics and videos are attached.

It's a little long, (editing is the most time consuming part). I hope you enjoy it, you may notice a theme for the music : )

There was also a pristine 67 Eldo, & a 89 Allante in the spectator lot so Cadillac was well represented.
Quick question: Do we all get wind noise through the closed vent windows at highway speed? I do. The rubber has been replaced. I have heard from a couple of friends and fellow car guys that that's just the way vent windows are. If there are any of us out there old enough to remember if the vent windows were loud when the cars were new that would be helpful. I have tried adjusting them here & there but they are far from silent at cruising speed.

I finally found and fixed the remaining pesky water leak into the passenger compartment. This is the 1st time since owning this car (28 years) that it does not leak from somewhere. I have resealed the windshield, back glass, trunk seal, door seals, & window seals over the years. This last leak eluded my for the longest time. Water would end up on the front passenger floorboard after washing the car. Thinking it was still the windshield I pulled the dash pad and had a friend pour water around the windshield while looked to see where it was getting in. No leaks! That was great news since the windshield was a total b!+$# to seal. He then poured water into the cowl grill and bingo here it peed onto the floorboard. Come to find out there is a gasket that seals the firewall to the a/c evaporator housing there. The gasket shrunk leaving a gap where the water was entering. Replacing the gasket would require pulling the a/c/heater assembly off the firewall which is no fun. I have replaced a few heater cores in my day and it totally sucks. I instead opted to fill the gap with some sealer. It was very difficult to get the sealer where it needed to go. I ended up attaching a hose to my caulking gun to get the job done. It took a few tries but eventually I got it to where I can't see any light shining through the gap. I gave it a water test and so far so good.

Here's where it was getting in. The gap is on the opposite side but

Although I would not rather drive the car in the rain, It's great to know that I can do so and wash the car without having to worry about it getting wet inside, getting moldy, smelly, rusty etc. Of course this has spawned new projects like get the wipers and washer in tip top shape as you might have read in my other post.
I recently found and fixed a pesky leak where water was entering the passenger compartment and winding up on the front passenger floorboard. I can post details about that if anyone is interested in a separate blog. My wipers have always as long as I have owned this car (29 years) had a delay from the time I flip on the switch til they start wiping, up to a minute sometimes. I have also seen where they have a delay after I turn them off til they stop wiping. I had the dash out recently and took the time to thoroughly clean and lube the switch but it made no difference with the wipers. It has never been a priority to fix this before since I would never have the car out if there was the slightest chance of rain. Now that I have a water-tight car, I may just drive it in the rain because I CAN. I thought I read a post about a similar wiper problem before either on this board or the old one but can't find it now. If anyone knows what causes this delay please let me know.
Picture at Schlotzkystag:6364cadillac.ning.com,2012-10-08:6543066:BlogPost:149352012-10-08T21:53:48.000ZKurthttps://6364cadillac.ning.com/profile/KurtEdmiston
