I need a used convertible boot for a 63 Cadillac convertible - condition or color is not an issue since it will be used as a pattern for making a new one. One from either a 62 series convertible or an Eldorado would work. I know I am searching for hen's teeth here... but you never know unless you ask!

Thanks, yes I do pull the padding and top material out whenever the top is down.  Most convertibles had better engineering and the rails sat below the car body when down, the 63-64 cars failed in this respect, no matter what you do the rails always poke up and even with boot on looks lumpy and terrible.  Glad to hear everyone else's boot is impractically tight as well - saves me wasting $200+ dollars on a new one.  Thanks for the input, everybody!

There is a very special way to fold the top  material and  side pads of  the convertible top when using the convertible top boot so that the top sits as low in the top well as is possible enabling the boot to be installed 

The instructions to do that —-are is a  separate booklet that came with  the convertibles 
I have seen no mention of the above in this post as that is a very big help in getting that boot on and getting the top to sit a good deal lower in the  top well than it otherwise would 
My convertible boot is brand new still and yes it is a very  tight fit even when the top folding is done by the book 

I choose not to use the boot myself  ( only a few times over the years ) as the ridge the boot has to slide into to use it is not that very easy to work with which leaves you with the boot folded over the rear seat when the top is up 

I always raise the top when ever I park the car in the sun and then drop it when I return as I have the top down as much as is possible on the days my car is out 

My 64 convert only comes out of the garage on the very best weather days in my case — top down 

Hope the above might be the answer to getting the boot on more easily but it is always a bit of a struggle to get all the snaps done so I avoid the entire process making using the top  easier and more enjoyable for myself 

My boot does match my Beacon Blue leather interior which makes the car one color from front to back and with a very appealing look being an unbroken  Long line of a very beautiful color

Thanks Mark, yes this saves me from replacing a too-tight boot with another (expensive) too-tight boot.  Over the years I've learned OPGI's return policy is terrible - buyer pays full shipping both ways and this is never refunded.  So glad I found your post!

Hello Lee, the OPGI boot was so tight that it took two men and a steamer to snap it down. I was building this car for a customer who I knew would not like it. So, I had my upholstery guy make a new one from the pattern. Also, if memory serves me correctly, I would have preferred burgundy to match the interior, and it was only available in black or white. @ Mark - Hi Mark, I'm considering a new boot from OPGI and am interested in your comment.  Can you tell me what you didn't like about the fit?  The one I have is original, shrunken and too tight to snap rear corners.  So definitely don't want to jump from frying pan to the fryer on this one.  Thanks!

Torque converter grab when idling in Drive

Hi Everyone, been quite a while since i have been on here.

I have had an issue with the idle on my 64 Coupe Deville ever since i have had it.

With the Idle set high enough that it is smooth, but still a nice idle, the RPM seems only slightly too high for the stall of the Torque Converter. And therefore it tends to sit there and grab and lunge a bit. So until now, i have been putting the car in Neutral at the lights to stop this happening.

Newbie to the group here - we have already found tons of invaluable information on the board, so thanks! We are restoring a 1963 Series 62 Convertible. We are wondering if anyone knows of a source to buy the propellor yoke flange (that bolts to the pinion flange) for the driveshaft? One of our ears partially broke off. Not sure if we can buy just the yoke flange as an aftermarket part, or if it has to be rebuilt by a welder/fab guy? Maybe a salvage yard for a source? Again, any…

Where can I find the V.I.N. on a 63 convertible?  The usual space at the base of the interior windshield on the driver's side has been decimated by weather.
