Hello,

I'm located in Melbourne, Australia and my 64 sedan de ville is stuck in the garage due to failed mechanical fuel pump. The first after market mechanical fuel pump lasted a few years before it failed & left me stranded 5 hours from home. A hire car and tow got us home. On inspection, I noticed a valve not seated within the housing. I was optimistic, pressed it into place and assumed the pump was good to go. But alas, no. From what I can now determine, the diaphragm pushrod appears to be jumping off the pumping actuating lever. I recently replaced the pump with yet another similar after market mechanical fuel pump which lasted a few hundred miles before failing. I disassembled the second pump to find both valves in place but again the diaphragm pushrod has jumped off the actuating lever. Can anyone shed some light on my problem? I think my only option now is an electric fuel pump.

I might still have the old pump.... i'll have a look.

My pump has done 25,000 miles, so nearly 40,000klm, so i guess i must've fluked a good one.

All American are excellent to deal with.

I don’t want to jinx you Kevin, but that’s who I bought my first one from a few years ago, and it was great for many years. The first sign of my problem was on the freeway at 100km then a gradual loss of power dropping to about 60 km without altering throttle pedal. Then as I was exiting the freeway to consider a tow, the car came back to life. This happened a couple of times over a few months while I was trying to determine if it was spark, carb or the fuel pump. Until one day near Cobram it lost power again until it stalled.

I purchased another pump from All American a couple of weeks ago that they air freighted in especially for me. The Caddy jumped back to life straight away. But that was short lived, about a week, and it dropped revs and stalled in the driveway.

The guys at All American we’re great, I sent the pump back & got a full refund.  They stated they have had problems with these pumps in the past couple of years & tried numerous brands however they all seem to come from the one manufacturer under different brands and don’t last.

I’m assuming that’s why they don’t seem to carry them in stock any more. I’ve also noticed Fusick no longer list or carry aftermarket fuel pumps for the 64. They do still offer a reco service on original fuel pumps.

Hey Kevin do you still have the old pump? And want to sell it?

Or does anyone else have a factory original 64 fuel pump for sale?

Trunk Open and Lock Mechanism is in Closed Position

While working on my trunk lock on 64 Cadillac, I mistakenly closed the locking mechanism while the trunk was open.  Is there an easy way to manually release the lock back to the open position?

Thanks.
