center bolt size for crankshaft pulley

I need to pull my distributor, and still have the cork in the end of the crankshaft. What is the bolt size needed to thread a bolt in there to be able to turn the motor over with a pull handle and socket to get it to TDC exactly before I pull the distributor out?

pull the plugs and the coil wire

Tap  the starter to get to TDC —on cylinder one - on the compression stroke by removing the valve cover —-after the intake valve opens and then closes  and come to top of cylinder

use the fan belts for minor adjustments to get  to TDC

You SB at —-zero on the timing plate and harmonic balancer marks to be at  TDC

use white out to mark the timing marks for easy viewing

note where the dist rotor  is pointing —and the point inspection plate are located ——to get back there while considering the - shift  caused by —the dist gear coming out and going back in ———-before you remove the dist

best to have a new set of points adjusted correctly ( on a dwell meter ) before you pull the dist to help get the engine to fire ASAP when ——reinstalling the dist and getting the engine to fire and run again well

new correctly adjusted points will help as once the dist is out you —will need to be good with a feller gauge to put new point in the dist which is never as good as using a dwell meter to adjust the point correctly ( more accurate )

Dwell is 28-32   I use 30 at 480 rpm —or .016 on a feller guage

If You Know All the above  already — OH NEVER Mind ( Gilda Ratner - SNL ! )

Happy Holidays

Enjoy

Dan, It is a 9/16"-18 bolt, usually about 1 5/8" which is the exact size thread and length of those front bumper bracket to frame bolts. There are more details on the installation and the bolt in this Help Page: Harmonic Balancer - Bolt for Installation

Map Light

I have a 63 Cadillac Series 62 convertible.  Can someone post a picture showing what the map light should look like?

Mine is a meta air vent like grating, which just does not look right for a map light.

Thanks in advance.  Rick

Upgrades for the Coupe de Ville

At long last I finally have power vent windows! I started collecting the parts 3 years ago. The one thing I could not find until recently is the 6 button driver's switch. Jason finally pulled one in and was more than generous with pricing. Thanks Jason! Installing the vent window motors was the easiest part of the project but many other tasks were spawned by this project.

  1. There is a hole in the door panels where the window crank was. I considered putting a hub cap emblem there…
