Hello,  would anybody be able to tell me if I’m using the correct gasket on my Rochester throttle body? It doesn’t  look right to me.  I’m not sure if the carb actually ran with this gasket because I got it used with no history.  Any help would be appreciated

I did a little more reading,  apparently the casting number on the bowl isn’t vehicle specific, it is used to signify the bowl type before machining for the specific vehicles.  Also I read that certain cars use a “venting gasket” to help with hot idle and hot starts so maybe it’s possible that is the correct gasket.

Thanks Mark, Good catch on the casting #. The when I search that number it does show up as as a Chevy,  it’s interesting because a Chevy throttle body is a lot different.

check the casting number 7028597.  I quick googled it and very little came up, except all of the listings showed that it belonged to a rochester 4gc on a chevy.  i don't know that this is reliable info, and my parts book is packed away, but i would suggest checking the bowl part # for the 63 and 64 against that 7028597.    I believe it's a carb made for another car.  But easily confirmed or denied with the parts book

I forgot to mention I did have the carb on my own car with that newer gasket, it ran like it had a terrible vacuum leak. I was hesitant to even try it but in the owners manual it shows that exact gasket. Is it possible that the manual  used a generic photo?

no, that gasket would induce vacuum leaks at each of the barrels.  you want a gasket without all the 'U' shaped cuts, that mimics the outline of the barrels.   This carb may have run, but would have been lean and not run off the idle circuits.  it was probably adjusted very rich to make up for the false air coming in.

Map Light

I have a 63 Cadillac Series 62 convertible.  Can someone post a picture showing what the map light should look like?

Mine is a meta air vent like grating, which just does not look right for a map light.

Thanks in advance.  Rick

Upgrades for the Coupe de Ville

At long last I finally have power vent windows! I started collecting the parts 3 years ago. The one thing I could not find until recently is the 6 button driver's switch. Jason finally pulled one in and was more than generous with pricing. Thanks Jason! Installing the vent window motors was the easiest part of the project but many other tasks were spawned by this project.

  1. There is a hole in the door panels where the window crank was. I considered putting a hub cap emblem there…

center bolt size for crankshaft pulley

Posted by Dan Norris on December 6, 2021 at 3:13pm 2 Comments

I need to pull my distributor, and still have the cork in the end of the crankshaft. What is the bolt size needed to thread a bolt in there to be able to turn the motor over with a pull handle and socket to get it to TDC exactly before I pull the distributor out?
