Tony,

thanks for the vote of confidence here, sometimes this stuff can be a real head scratcher. There is no vibration in the steering wheel at all ,it rumbles like an oscillating fan at higher speeds 50-55 & up . Low speeds it’s fine

Chris, thanks for the great diagnosis chart . Very interesting stuff there

The universal joints just before the rear end assembly ( ham ) are often a problem with our year cars  regarding  vibration

Go to the - video section - in the header and view Jason’s video on the subject of our rear drive shaft u joints and how they SB working

Another possibility are the rear tailing arm bushings and —or shocks  going bad and causing the ham to not stay in its correct position  regarding the drive shaft —all the time

There is a video of the ham shifting —taken from  a go pro camera ( in videos ) that shows the motion  of the ham shifting—- with regard to the drive shaft  when the rear trailing arm bushings have gone bad and are worn

There is only one solution— to replacing the rear trailing arm bushings that I will be glad to explain if that might be your problem

Drive train vibration is one of the more complicated problems as there are a good number of things that could be the cause—— as I think about the subject for the first time in a while

Enjoy

That bearing can be replaced with the trans in the car

I feel for you- for all the time —-and money spent on this problem—— that has not yet found  a solution for your pride and joy

This is the kind of STUF that keeps me up nights  !!!  so I do understand

Enjoy

 Ray

There is a bearing that may have gone bad  at the back of the trans —that is about the only thing—- you have not addressed in the drive train from your post

That bearing can still be in question even if the drive shaft is removed and balanced as you indicated you have done

Just my best guess —-from prior problem with vibrations over many  the years on this site ( since 2006 )

Enjoy

Mr. Shick,

I regretfully have no magical advice and, yes, the forum has many posts of members chasing sounds and vibrations.

I’m attaching an old “Service Roundtable” in the hope it assists in your resolution of the issue.

Did the rumble precede all of the repairs/upgrades?

I hope the solution is something simple.

Hello I've been restoring a 63 for way to many years. Down to almost done, but have issue with trans linkage, when column in park shift rod 2 inches short. everything original. been trying to find picture of manual rod hooked up from under car to see position of linkage. was wondering if anybody has access for pictures. I wanted to see if my manual linkage is bent  wrong out of the trans if somebody dropped the trans or something. Doesn't make sense why it doesn't work. Thanks for any input…
