Yesterday, i decided to go to a testicle festival up here in MT and it was the first longer drive i have taken since getting back up here.  I had it strapped down on a 20 ft trailer for the journey on the axles.

I did  notice a drift to the right when i got bak up here, if i let go of the wheel, it would pull right,  not on brake, but on cruise,  i also noted at take off and at slower speed. the car feels like it is rolling lopsided, like a tire has bulge in it or a lop sided wheel,, I'm guess you can guess what i trying to convey, but as you speed up, it goes away.

Yesterday, about 20 miles into my 40 mile trip,  i got a good bit of wheel shake between 50 and 60.  if i got down to 45 or 48, it went away,, or, it i really got it up about 60 plus, it mostly went away,, so, i just kept on at at about 45 to 50,  as i got along, i began to slip up to the 50s, and there was no vibration,, 60 no vibration, 70 no vibration.

it was really odd.  for 20 miles, even a creep into the 50s and it would vibrate pretty good.  and then, seemingly out of the blue, it just quit,  and, it did not show up on the way home..due to lots of wildlife on the road, i didnt go above 55 and it was dark, so i didnt really push looking for a the shake.

The pull to the right is still definitely there.

so,, the lop sided rolling feeling, what is a likely culprit here?

the pull to the right,, ??   the vibration,

could i have pulled it out of alignment when i strapped it down for the haul back up here.  would these all be related to one problem,   ? would an alignment be the first step or or a tire check?

other than that, the car ran good, engine wise,

Car bounces freely, all 4vtires.   Front right squeeks.

Sounds like a tire shake. Have a shop inspect the tires.  The pulling is a bad alignment or a wheel bearing dry or too tight.

The alignment can be caused by several factors, like tie rods, idler arm, ball joints.  have a reputable shop take a look.

I read up on that, will get appt. To hv cked,  just dnt hv any way to ck or lift all wheels to ck safely at this point. I took Tonys thoughts , cked shoks,  all bonce freely.  Some squeeking on fron right.

Thanks

Will do

Kim, check you don't have a tyre delaminating please mate.

Jack up one at a time and spin them by hand while holding your other hand on the  tread face. You'll get the idea as you go.

i checked the tires, they are not round,, that i can tell, took to the shop around the corner for confirmation,,  they checked them, said they all four were coming apart and needed to be replaced,,

so i said order up some tires,, they said,, takes a week,,i said, why?  they said cause white walls not common and dont stock them,, so,

I'm waiting on tires to come in,, cant believe you cant white wall tire in our size in stock,, !!!  hopefully, this will settle the car wobble down

Tony, didnt find any bending ro anything out of place or whack,,shocks look very new, and i recall the prior owner saying he had just replaced them in the last year before i bought the car.  i dont see any leaking from them. they bounce equally under similar hood bouncing pressure.. but i have now seen that not necessarily a fix, the new part.. so, per notes below, seems my tires are coming apart,

tires be in mid next week,, will see how it goes.

guess i will have to drive the 73 eldo convert for a few days,, weather in the 70s all next week, so it wont be a chore.

The tire shake at specific speed can indicate wheel balance also. Shaking at approximately 35 MPH and 60-70 MPH are the harmonics of tire balance usually.

hopefully after new tires, and balancing, this will fix it self.. if not, shop making tire change has an alignment machine, so can go right on over to it if the wobble doesnt go away

UPDATE!!!

Well, got tires replaced.  All four.  Balanced, etc.  Hvnt done aligment as alignment co is 55 miles away and will get to nxt week.  However

WHAT A EFFING DIFFERENCE NEW TIRES MADE!  No vibration.  Car does not pull at sll.  Steering well seems to have gone back to near level.  No heat at all on that back rear tire i had so much truble with.  Like a whole new car.  I thought my 73 eldo drove so much smoother tham this car, from day one,  but now,  they both ride similarly smooth and just float along.   Unbelievable the difference.  Thanks again for all the help!

Amazing what a good set of tires will do plus that fix was much easier than tearing everything apart and re-inventing the wheel.

Glad to hear she is running like a Cadillac should.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
