I was wondering if, while i have the back wheels off ground, drums off, if I can turn on the engine, and put in to gear, and check the spin of the axles to make sure no visible wobble or warp,, or, is that just an stupid thing to do?  not putting on the on the gas, just checking on idle.. or, if that would do anything at all to figuring out my wobble before putting on the drums again.

Pass on running the car on stands

Just grab the axel and physically move it around to see if you feel less than a tight fit

Put it all back together and test to see if problem is corrected

Kim, take the tire off and put a few of the lug nuts on to hold the drum in place. Run at idle and check the drum and axle at the same time.

Ok.  Soon as i get them bk from machinist.  They are having trouble cutting new face in drum.  Ssid they are getting chatter and not cutting clean.  Thay have moved to the lathe to get more stable grip.  At least thats wat they say.  Hoping they dnt tear them up an i have to get new set. They are expensive

Be sure the car is supported well as you will need to get in and out of it --to run it in neutral --as that will be shifting the cars weight a bit
Putting chocks under the front wheels helps keep the car in place

Not sure what it is you are looking for by running the rear end in place like that

64 Power Seat Transmission cleaning-it did the trick

Posted by Norman Silverman on June 16, 2018 at 5:36pm 4 Comments

Hello All.

I thought I'd post a little encouragement for those that might have an inoperative 6 way power seat in their car. The fix is relatively easy, and VERY cheap.

I just purchased an original (not re-painted, nor reupholstered) 64 Sedan De Ville 4 window. When I purchased it the front seat was adjusted forward and tilted down in front; two of the worst positions for me, so I had no choice but to attempt to repair it.

Pushing the switch in each direction brought…

I saw this question asked in 2012 but did not see a definitive answer to the question so here goes. The new main bearings I received for my build are little different than the originals. Of the five bearings the thrust bearing is the same as are two of the other bearings. Of the other two one has two oil groves and one is wider than the others. Does anyone know where the odd bearings go. My guess is they go in the front and the rear but I don't know what one goes where. Any information would…
