Instead of bugging all w seemingly mundane question,  i visited utube for soft brake, bench bleeding MC,  etc.And yet, here i am again  I hv bled brakes, no air,  no leaks in my mc cylinders,  both were i filled them. No leaks at lines, front or back or brake cylinders,  so i found symptom of firm brake then slide to floor, hv to pump to get back to stopping power.  Well i deemed it  "bypassing" in the MC.  So. Ordered appropriate delco MC.  Took off old, noted a rubber gasket in poor shape.  Torn and warped   see photo.

Well when i opened new, there  was no gasket.  I thought, no problem, went to napa et al,  they said dnt hv separately.  So went bk to amazon to review photo, and there was a picture w this foam looking thing,  a filter.  I read a prior post on 63 forum and it was a foam filter i guess they use now,  could that be possible?  Anyway, i tore house up looking for that filter, but i know it wasnt there initially.  But it looks like a piece styrofoam pipe insulation, which isnt on the removed part.  So i contacted amazon, will send newtold them to ck to make zure foam an rubber there.

Can the filter that looks like pipe insulatiin be the new replacement fir the rubber?  Semms an odd material change.

If that is not it, were would that rubber part b sourced from? If not included w main part?

That O ring helps to seal the booster from vacuum leaks. There should also be a rubber disk around the push rod coming out of the booster.   I would go with a new O ring from your favorite parts store. Just size it up.

yes, there is a rubber piece on the face of the booster, seems to be in good shape,, i found a ruber gasket that fits the groove and feels to be the same thickness and depth of the original one,, looks to b a bout a 1 and 3/8 I.D.

see how it goes tomorrow

UPDATE/p>

i went to local stores,, hardware and auto parts, found best avalailbe matching gasket/o ring.

bled MC and hooked up, no more soft brakes,, has a good solid feel. WAAAAYYY better that before, apparently, prior MC had a problem internally.

ALSo, in re greasing front end.. the zerks on lower BJ were not in a advantageous location of the hand held grease gun, the fitting location made it impossible to make a good attachment for the grease gun so no grease could go in.. so i removed the old zero, put in a 45 degree zerk.  pumped it up with grease,, like 8 or 9  pumps,, seemed almost empty!!  then replace with old zero, both sides done, squeak is better,  didnt get around to putting in zerk on top, will get to that in next couple days,,

anyway,, tow more things off the the list,, MC and greasing frame..... the saga continues!!!

Keep plugging away at your list.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
