Classic Cadillac Coupe Burns On Busy Freeway In Tustin

Just saw this on YouTube last night. I think this might be Scott Doll's 1964 de Ville Convertible which we featured in our May 2014 Newsletter. Very Sad.
UPDATE: This is Chapter Member Scott Doll's 64 Convert. He said his extinguisher was empty, 2 others had stopped by and their's was almost empty, and by the time they could get a 3rd one on it, it was too late! You can see Scott and his 64 from our May 2014 Newsletter at this link: https://app.box.com/s/6dwscht5zbootqudpqaa

UPDATE #2: According to Scott, it seems the rear wheel brake was sticking to the brake drum, which caused the brake fluid and tire to catch fire.

Oh my goodness! I had my rear brakes hang up while driving back in July.  I could smell something, saw a little smoke, and pulled over to investigate. There was a little heat, but seemed like I could limp home. About 5 miles down the road the car shimmied so I pulled over. Left rear wheel was putting out a little smoke, a lot of heat and hubcap burned if touched. Got a flatbed to get me home. I changed pads last month and have been afraid to drive in case I missed something and the real issue was missed. I was on today trying to see if anyone had issues with the pistons or booster sticking. Seeing this makes me even more concerned.

Found a slight leak on the hoses.

replaced today but couldnt find the correct hose for tank to overflow tube.

No fuel resistance tube the correct size

In many cases gas will evaporate before it hits the ground  leaving only some residue at clamps or spilt rubber locations unless leak is bad and then a more visible flow

Best to have the engine running when looking for seepage or leaking as there is more activity and easier to see

Replace all rubber hoses with those for ethanol gas to upgrade the fuel system

Bring the old hose to the auto store for replacement sizes

The dollars you save on fuel  loss makes the job worth the effort

Very difficult to watch...  I test drove my car to Long Beach yesterday and it had a strong fuel smell.  Often I see small fuel drops on the ground.  Watching this video makes me run to the garage drop my tank and inspect all areas where it might be leaking from.

Hope the insurance company took care of the owner.  so unfortunate

two years ago , after i changed the rear brakes, my 63 would vibrate badly at about 60 - 65,  i could feel heat coming off rear hub,, i touched it and it was blazing hot, like blister you at touch hot,, and in the end, it ended up being the new brake cylinder was bad,, it would not plunge back out after being pushed in when you put on the brake, so it just kept he show in touch with drum...took for ever and lots of help from you guys to finally figure it out, but looking back, i guess i could have ended up in the same place if i hadn't noticed that intense heat on the rim and hub

Stuck at two red (dash) lights!

Posted by Jeff Kinzler on November 3, 2019 at 10:00pm 9 Comments

I hope someone can help solve these two electrical problems that appeared one after the other.

By way of background: The car, a '64 Eldorado has very limited use. It was at a restoration shop for 15 months until last January-  that supposedly did a bunch of wiring repairs including rebuilding the gas gauge that still hasn't worked properly, and the clock that hasn't worked, and re-soldering the broken wires in the drive door. All window and seat controls appear to be…

Dash removal

Posted by Jake Mickley on October 9, 2019 at 12:06am 9 Comments

Hello everyone,

On a 63 CDV, if a guy wanted to remove the entire dash to get all the metal painted, and do some other things behind there, how would he go about doing that?  I checked here and the shop manual, but can't find a complete guide.

As always, and help or direction is appreciated.  Thanks!

Introducing myself

Thanks for letting me join the club.  Picked up this ‘64 Coupe Deville a few months ago out of Beverly MA, the car has few stickers on it from various Cadillac clubs, didn’t know if anyone might recognize it from it’s “Glory days.” Everything seems pretty healthy except for the body and some very Mickey Mouse repairs, was wondering if anyone had any leads on…
