My windows are slow up and down but all worked until the driver's window got stuck down. The lights dim when you hit the switch, indicating electronics should be OK, so I bought a new motor(maybe…Continue

Driver's power window won't lift--buy a new motor?

The window's been fine as long as I've owned the car so I don't think it has an issue with the track. When you push the button to lift it, the lights dim, indicating to me that the wiring is OK…Continue

I have front brake drums and discs, a window, a window frame, and an air cleaner shroud. I don't need them and anyone can have them for shipping cost. I would guess the shipping would be $20-25 for each piece except the heavy brake drums. My 64 convertible arrived with a lot of extra parts 3 years ago and I'm starting to get rid of them. I also have a couple of old carburetors since I switch mine to a new Edelbrock. More photos available as there are only 3 photo slots here. See More

"I've had trouble with my electric windows also. Turns out I had a broken wire in the bundle of wires that pass from the door frame into the drivers door. Lots of flex at that point and 50+ year old wire."

"Thanks for the detail! I like to work on the car, but it doesn't sound fun to access all four motors, dismantling quite a bit of the interior. I pretty much drive it 9 months a year with the windows and top down but I will do as much of this as…"

"The plastic wire shell doesn't carry current, it only separates the brass terminals inside which squeeze the pins of the switch, so replacing the plastic will do absolutely nothing except cosmetically.  You need to fix the actual…"

"There are several on ebay at the moment.  These are expensive ($100 on up).  They can be taken apart, but the assembly is swaged or crimped together and getting this firmly back in place caused me problems.  "

"Excellent suggestions, thank you. The listing for this part indicates NOT compatible with '64 Cadillac but it does look sort of close and could possibly be rigged to work in the absence of a perfect replacement. One the armrest is sealed up it…"

Doing disc brake conversion and I need to change out the rims--what to get?

Posted on December 7, 2017 at 3:55pm 22 Comments

I'm having a mechanic change to '64 Deville convertible to disc brakes. He used the spacers that came with the kit but one side takes 2 spacers and the other 3, and there is a slight disconnect from the center hub from being so far out. It appears the best solution would not be further tinkering with spacers but a deeper 15" rim made for disc brakes. Does anyone know what rims might work that will allow the existing Cadillac hub caps to fit?

I have read everything I can find on disc…

That's something I want to do. I checked with Summit but they were not sure if their kit would work with the wire wheels. I'm going to do more research and see what I can find.

I really like it. Where did you get the front disc brake conversion from and what wheels are you running?

Bad Guage?

Posted by Karl Schwarz on August 26, 2020 at 3:08pm 6 Comments

So I am troubleshooting my fuel gauge issue. I bought a new sender and tested it. It  it goes from 1-ohm (empty) to 35-ohm (full). When I test it (outside the tank), when the float is in the up (full) position it only moves the gauge to about 1/2 full. When at the bottom (empty) position the gauge shows empty. This is the same issue I have when I fill and then use the gas in the tank - the gauge never reads ore than half full. Based on what I've read on this thread it would seem like the…
