I hope this is useful to others, it's a complex story. I was having starting issues and hesitation issues with my fuel flow in the '64 Deville and posted here. Various folks gave me excellent info on accelerator pump, filters, vacuum, etc, but I decided just a new carb was the way to go. I wanted a fix, not tweaks.Seemed easy, as I've exchanged carbs on a number of cars over the years. You undo 4 nuts and do a little tuning, it takes half an hour. There was a debate between replacement Carter…See More

Can't get new Carter AFB to IDLE, though it starts and runs nicely

So, having been through many installations of a new Edelbrock 1406 with no success getting it to run smoothly, as documented here, and THANKS for everyone's help, I ordered a rebuilt Carter AFB.The original problem was that the Carter AFB installed on my '64 convertible needed 15 pumps to start and always felt starved for gas. Adjustments did not help so I went to Edelbrock, and with many problems, went back to Carter AFB. The Carter I installed has the car starting OK and running smoothly, but…See More

Doing disc brake conversion and I need to change out the rims--what to get?

Posted on December 7, 2017 at 3:55pm 22 Comments

I'm having a mechanic change to '64 Deville convertible to disc brakes. He used the spacers that came with the kit but one side takes 2 spacers and the other 3, and there is a slight disconnect from the center hub from being so far out. It appears the best solution would not be further tinkering with spacers but a deeper 15" rim made for disc brakes. Does anyone know what rims might work that will allow the existing Cadillac hub caps to fit?

I have read everything I can find on disc…

Brakes Went Out

Posted by Christopher Codd on August 8, 2018 at 8:25am 18 Comments

My '64 Cadillac DeVille had been sitting for awhile while I was travelling this summer and when I came home it had some issues starting. After replacing the plugs and the ignition coil, it was running better than it had in a long time but the brakes were sticking. I noticed the brake pedal was traveling a little farther than usual when slowing down. Soon after I noticed a hissing noise coming from around the brake pedal. Then I lost the brakes pretty much completely. I couldn't find any…

Comfortron AC trouble shooting

Posted by Norman Silverman on July 23, 2018 at 8:54pm 5 Comments

OK, here we go.....

I got the book to troubleshoot the system. INDISPENSABLE to this effort.

As I do a cursory exam, I see that the AC RECIRC SOLENOID is Cracked (the WHITE one in the engine compartment coming out of the HVAC body with two vacuum hoses on it). I tried to patch it up (cracked all around the base), but it does not look like it will hold.

PLEASE TELL ME THAT REPLACING THIS PART IS NOT AS DIFFICULT AS I THINK IT IS, But I think it is a bear to…

A/C Issue / Stumped !

Posted by Dana G Cooper on July 23, 2018 at 6:29pm 37 Comments

My 63 CDV factory A/C was trash so I replaced every part in the system and converted to R134 . I also installed a STV bypass kit which eliminated the STV all together and converted the system to a cycling system.  I vacumed and charged the system with 36oz of 134. The system is cycling as it should and the pressures are right at 250 high side, cycle off at 25lbs and cycle back on at about 35lbs. It is making plenty of water on the low side hoses and evaporator drain. There is very good air…
