"Troubleshooting is in order. The single gray wire on the headlight switch is the dash lights. The blue wire on the connector is the headlight power to the dimmer switch. Check that they have 12V"

"That is strange. Did you replace with incandescent bulbs or LEDs? I've heard that some LEDs are not the correct polarity for these cars. Did the headlights work fine before you cleaned the switch? If you disassembled it, maybe something went…"

No dash lights, headlights only come on with dimmer

I’m in the midst of refreshing some things in my dash. I got my passenger ash tray working for the first time ever apparently, evident by the factory defect tag. “While I’m in here I might as well replace some bulbs proactively.” That was a mistake. After replacing bulbs, nothing worked. I decided to clean the headlight switch - all the contacts with alcohol and a q tip.Now I have no dash lights at all, and the headlights come on only when you rotate the dimmer all the way like you’re…See More

Fuel gauge needle bouncing

Hi everyone,I'm in the midst of diagnosing two fuel gauge problems. Originally it would only read half full after filling up.After replacing it with a recalibrated gauge, now the needle bounces like crazy all over the place when the car is moving.I'm assuming there's some sort of chafed ground somewhere - the tank and sender are brand new, sender was bench-tested. The fuel gauge is also recalibrated.Any ideas on places to look very closely? Thanks!See More

Gas gauge only reads half when full

Hi everyone, I installed a new gas tank sender in my 63 after bench testing it and confirming ohm range on the bench. However after installing and filling it up, it only reads half full after filling the tank up.Is there a way to calibrate this? Does it involve bending the float arm? I'd hate to drop the tank again.I've searched the forum high and low for this issue and haven't been able to find anything - just some dead links when referring to gas gauge calibration in …See More

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
