A while back some kids broke into my Cadillac and had a hay day with my steering column gearshift and turn signal lever. Since then the gear shifter would slip and have a hard time going back into park like something is stripped. Just to get the car to start, I had to bypass the neutral safety switch so I knew they broke something. Well today I pulled my steering wheel and found the cracks/breaks below but I couldn't  find a bolt or any where that piece connects to the center tubing. Can I use JB Weld on those areas that show the cracks/breaks. Even if so, I don't know if that would correct my shifting issue, what connects the the steering column gearshift piece to the center tube? I can reach down where the needle is and shift through the gears and back to park fairly easy or do it from under the hood, it feels as if the steering column is stripped. Do I need to replace it?

Hi Brandon,

Google "Steering Column Shifter - 63/64 Cadillac website", and you'll see Jason's diagrams and pictures of the inside of the steering column.  It shows the Carrier and how it fits on to the column.  Scroll down and it gives a detailed picture of all the parts.  This should help identifying what is cracked.  Hope it helps.

Great, that is exactly what I needed to see. Thanks!!
Hi Brandon,

I don’t have much experience with steering column repairs, but you might consider replacing it with a good used assembly considering the theft damage that it sustained. Russ Austin or Jason might have a good used column available or know where to get one. Both are super knowledgeable and always willing to help.

All the Best,
Jacob
Thanks Jacob!

I have plenty of those non--tilt steering column collars. $30 after discount and can ship for $10 or stop by if near Raleigh/Garner anytime soon.

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
