Power Steering Pump Hi Pressure Hose - Shorter Original vs Longer Aftermarket

We had a discussion on the power steering pump to steering gear hi pressure hoses on Sunday's Zoom Meeting and I was explaining the original hose with the crimp in center was considerably shorter than the aftermarket ones being sold today. This means the longer aftermarket hose has to be looped around and has never looked right to me.

With a nice original set aside for some time, I decided to remove my longer aftermarket hose and install the original hose on 'Dino' my 1964 Coupe de Ville. Usually I would not recommend used hoses but these are thick, multi-layered hoses and can hold up well.

The original hose was about 24 to 25" long stretched out and the aftermarket ones are about 30 to 31".  The GM part # was 569 2602 in parts group 6.670 and fits all 1963 and 1964 Cadillacs + 1965 Series 75 body styles.

The only source I have seen for a reproduction original style hose has been McVeys and they show it is backordered and for some odd reason only list it for 1964.  It will definitely fit the 1963 as noted above per the master parts book. If someone has a source for new original style 24/25" long hi pressure hoses, let us know!

First, See photos of the original hi pressure hose with crimp ring in center., compared to aftermarket hose, and a measurement of original hose.

NEXT, here is how my 30/31" aftermarket hose looked on Dino. Yes I  could have looped it a bit better but it is 5 to 6 inches longer than the factory hose and that extra hose needs to go somewhere.

And to wrap up the discussion on the power steering pump to steering gear high pressure hose, here is how a very good original condition hose looks installed on my 64 CDV Dino tonight. It lays and travels much more naturally and the angles from pump and gear are better.
NEXT UP: Install new low pressure hoses with the correct clamp!

I was going to start on low pressure hoses, clamps and cooler, but did not have power steering line hoses and ordered 25 ft so I would have enough to do a few extras with the cad plated tower clamps.

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu
