hi all..
need help with my heat riser.. this is in my 57 Fleetwood ... pic attached. it is stuck but can someone tell me if it is open or closed. where should it be for normal hot running?
Comment
Video is correct. My comments were a bit confusing anyway in reply below and replaced and bolded with the following: As the car is cranked cold and engine warms up it should turn clockwise opening up the butterfly.
Jason, when looking at the picture to open it fully you wrote counter clockwise, but
shouldn't it be clockwise. When I watch your video you turn it clockwise to open it.
Are they all designed the same way?
thanks gents. I thought it was stuck open. thats where it needs to stay. we dont need that out here in Aus. the 57 has the choke tube seperate to the manifold so the choke is more than enough for cold starts and its working ok. cheers

It looks like it is open or at least partially open. When the car is cranked it should be turned with the too pins close together. As the car is cranked cold and engine warms up it should turn clockwise opening up the butterfly. If yours is stuck it is better to have it stuck open. You should be able to turn it by hand if it is not froze up. If froze up, sometimes you can saturate it with PB Blaster, WD 40 or other lube and free them up. Else you will need to replace it or make sure it is tied back fully open. Here is a picture of one I had stuck mostly open for reference (note the pin the spring attaches to and the one it stops against are separated like yours indicated yours is open):

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year , There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A What is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.
There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
