Out of curiosity,, is the 63 64 engine capable of burning rubber off of a stop light?   Not a hold the brake and rev up and release, but from a stop, to burn rubber power?

I know mine wont because i have tried it, not that I like to burn rubber, but to see just how much pick up and go it had from a dead stop,. I know these are cruisers.

anyway, just a curiosity question,,

Tony, yes, as you say, i have no interest in scratching out for the ladies at the light,, more of a does my engine run with the proper power.. I rarely go over 65 on the interstate,, and when i drive through town, i go slow as to be seen,, not heard.. i remember in the early 8o's, my dad had a 77 or 78 sedan deville, and a fleetwood after that.. i knew they had power, but even then, i never tried to burn out.

the only burning we did was one night, i was about 21 or 22, had some buddies in my mothers fleetwood,, I'm guessing about a 80,  of course, we were cruising, had a couple cases of beer going, the guy in the back lit up a doobie,   thinking nothing of it, we carried on, partied all night.   the next morning..  my mother came screaming in to my room,  who burned the fkn seats?????   well, the seats where the velour/felt type,, and a couple coals hit it..it was an aqua blue color with same sort of color on the seats,, couple of brown holes really were visible.   thats the only burning i ever did in those big cars...boy she was mad!!

Yeah, reefer!  We used that too.  Funny how the terms chaged.  We couldnt afford real wine, so we were boones farm, and md 2020 fans, when we wanted to exhibit culture.   Boy,  glad i grew out of pot early

I did it with my first '64 Sedan deVille my parents gave me.  I was 18, and I loved that car.  It had the original Carter AFB and wasn't 'hopped' up, but I could burn rubber at a light.  Such is youth!

The cars with standard hypoid rear end with the lower 3.21 rear differential gear will burn rubber from a dead stop on level ground much easier than one with the 2.91 gear and/or limited slip (optional controlled differential).

For kicks and grins and a throwback to my limited street/strip drag racing days, when I installed my 3.21 limited slip in Dino way back, I took it behind a building across the street and held the brakes and did a two wheel fish tail burnout like I use to love in my hopped up 1968 Camaros. I have not done it since, but had to try it... oh what a rush!  The two burnout marks stayed back there forever.

I'll add that the torque multiplication provided by the TH400's torque converter will help. The fluid coupling in the 63's Hydramatic does not have this benefit.

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
