Hey fellas if you're rebuilding your 429 check your timing cover for corrosion behind the water pump  Russ and I had 429 engine number two on the dyno today had shimed the oil pump spring for a little more oil pressure he likes to see about 40 lb not 30. had a little too much oil pressure 100 lb remove the oil pump cover to remove the shim engine oil was all milky it had only run about 5 seconds before we shut it down removed the drain plug and ran the oil out it was all milky a little stream of water kept coming pulled the valve covers couldn't see any water leaking from head gaskets into crankcase . The cooling system was under pressure we could hear something pulled the breather cap on the oil field tube sounded like water leaking couldn't see it though with a flashlight pulled the distributor and there it was a pinhole spraying water into the crankcase pulled  the timing cover and the water pump couldn't see anything put a bright flashlight behind it and there it was a little pinhole right in a corroded pocket behind the water pump but you couldn't see it so you better be checking your timing covers close took and had it TIG aluminum welded smoothed the weld out a little and smeared some Marine epoxy over it as a extra precaution this is why we Dino engines before we put them between the fenders.

Hi Chris,

This is really some fine work you did with the timing cover.  As always, I'm very impressed with the work you do and what you discovered with the pinhole.  Kudos to you and Russ!

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
