I'm working on the front of the engine on my "63. Does anyone know the correct thread size of the internal treads on the crank shaft? I'd like to go into the hardware store and buy a longer bolt to use in installing the harmonic balancer and am considering securing it with a shorter bolt and washer after it's installed.

most people do not have those laying around and most home improvement and auto parts stores do not stock them. The actual bolt is  9/16" - 18 x 1 5/8" long...with a very thick large washer.  This turns out to be the same bolt size used on the large front bumper end to frame brackets and I literally have buckets of them if you need one. I use a couple of the large washers behind it to firmly press against the balancer.  You can also get these bolts new from places like boltdepot.com but once I figured out the bumper end bolts are the same I quit keeping them in stock. If you need one of these bolts I can set you up with a bolt and 2 washers for $10 + s/h.  …Added by Jason Edge at 10:04pm on September 17, 2018

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
