My CPA (Cadillac Parts Apprentice) is taking on a special project today. I had a 63/64 Cadillac valve cover Cadmium plated and have Cheryl painting the Cadillac script with Cadillac Blue engine paint. Something for the office - ya know!

Nice!  You should always start apprentices out with sweeping floors and cleaning parts. They have to prove their worth before being entrusted with good knowledge.

Oh, Cheryl is definitely an Advanced apprentice and has earned her stripes to be called a journey-woman. She's been doing the Cadillac thing for me since the beginning but her full time job got in the way. Now that she is retired she can help me out with the parts sorting, cleaning, etc.

Back to the valve cover I had taken a valve cover that was a bit rough and ground off the wire tabs and was going to throw some paint on it and outline the Cadillac Script with Cadillac Blue paint and hang on the wall. With the large batch of items going to the Cadmium platers, for kicks & grins, I thought I would throw the valve cover in... only adds a couple bucks to cost.   The cool thing about Cadmium is you have the mosaic of colors with the golds, yellows, oranges, silvers, etc in the mix. Now that I have this "rough" valve cover done and the script painted I think I would like to have a nice smooth one done.

Nonetheless this one will be good to hang up on the wall in the garage or office ... should be a good conversation piece. Here is what it looks like finished.

Jason, how did you paint the Cadillac script?  I was thinking of taking my valve covers off, painting the covers Cadillac blue and then highlighting the script in white.

Patrick, I used the "Cheryl Tool!". She free hand painted this cad plated valve cover.  As a former (and still excellent) cake decorator, she has much steadier hand than me!

Jason,

Encomium to Cheryl.  I wish my valve covers were so fancy!!!  Looks excellent!

I have a similar “Mary tool” at my disposal.  Since I plan to have mine on the car with heat on it, do you have a suggestion for what type paint I should use?

It just needs to be a high temp paint. Most "engine" paints are rated 500 degrees well above the operating temperature of the engine. You can also get super high temp paint meant for grills, exhaust manifolds and such.  Finding colors other than black or white in a pint can may get difficult but I am sure they are out there. You will  find a LOT of high temp paint in the aerosol can.  Cheryl is actually painting from a Bill Hirsch Cadillac Blue Qt can that would of course work if I wanted to pop that cad plated engine on an actual running engine.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

accumulator dryer

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks
