My first time taking apart a motor and trying to follow the manual. My steel pipe running under the intake manifold back to the heater core hose has a 3/16 hole drilled in it about 1/2” from the end closest to the water pump. Is this suppose to be there? The hose and clamp we’re covering it. Second question are the water pump bolts suppose to have lock washers on them?

Hey Larry. There should be no hole in the pipe... just the hole at each end! If the hose and clamp covers it you should be find. I have seen them with the rear or front clamp broken off or rotted off, and the ends badly corroded but never a hole down the length of the pipe. I have inserted a couple of pictures of a nice specimen below for reference.
There were 11 bolts thru the water pump, spanning 4 sizes and all were flange head bolts and none had washers. Same for the entire front engine cover which has 17 bolts and spans 7 sizes when you include the water pump bolt... all were flange head bolts with no washers. These were not serrated flange head bolts, just regular, so it wouldn't hurt to use a split or external tooth lock washer, or go back with a serrated flange head bolt, but from the factory they were just regular flange head bolts with no washer.

The return pipe is similar to the one I posted above... nice! Price for it drops to $27 with discount or $67.50 for all 3.
Is that the oil fill tube on the left? Does it just pull straight out fairly easy? I have not removed it yet.
From left to right: Oil filler tube, hot water return pipe, PCV Pipe. I use a rubber mallet and tap the tube left and right until it begins to wiggle and dislodge then remove from top cover. To install, use wood or hard plastic/rubber on top to gently tap down into front cover until it seats.

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year , There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A What is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.
