Radio Antenna Cabel

Hey Guys I have a question about my car antenna cabel. While removing the antenna connector from the AM/FM radio I pulled more on the cabel than connector and I ended up holding it in my hand with the con nector still in the radio.  Now looking at it I'm woundering if its the reason I'm not pulling in the stations especially AM like I should. The cabel is black and part of that is stripped away exposing braded wire then some white tubing..should a solid wire be exposed after that? if so how should I cut it correctly and how much should be exposed?

I've got VG nice solid original antenna cables for $20 + $6 s/h if your end has pulled apart. I can't remember trying to reapir one but if any doubt wiht yours I have plenty of nce VG+ used ones.
