hello chapter members. I have reached a point where I am at a dead end with my brake troubles. we have a 63 coupe de ville, originally with a bendix unit which i replaced with a delco unit probably 22 years ago. Then 2 years ago that went bad and i located a rebuildable bendix unit and sent it to white post restoration for a rebuild, finally installed it this past june only to find the master had a defective seal and resent it back for repair, got it back and put it. during the initial install i made sure both pushrod to master and threaded linkage  from booster to brake pedal were same. bled master on bench before install, bled lines at master, even bled rear wheel cylinders, replaced left because wouldn't bleed and still yet did road test only to have to apply excessive pressure to pedal, like there is no power brakes, did i overlook something? could the booster rebuild be defective, the pedal seems awefully hard to push unlike the with the original bendix or other delco that was in for many years, you could hear and fell the vacuum when stepping on the pedal. Can anyone offer a solution. I'm considering sending the delco for a rebuild and reinstalling it.

I am not sure this will help, but I had mine rebuilt at Karp’s Power Brakes, Jeff 909-985-0800. I THINK there are two rod links and I am guessing you might have a rod from one and a master from another. Jeff knows how to tell the difference and if you have a matched set. I think you could call him. 

2nd idea is the '67 booster fits and works. 

thank you frank, the 3rd time was a charm! first time sent unit to whitepost restoration, came  back looking well done only to have large nut at one port for brake line leak, sent  master back, kept booster , master came back fine only to find booster not working, and one rear wheel cylinder not able to bleed, so changed rear wheel cylinder and rubber hose, sent booster and master back as requested. received both back and installed again and everything worked great and we went for a nice cruise that evening after being in the garage for like 2 years..... the next day my wife took the car for a ride and the heater core sprung a leak......... so that is my next project and a few other things so we are ready to go to gettysburg in june!

 

Mr Murphy loves me and I can see he loves you too!  You fix the brakes and the heater core starts to leak - wow.  The heater core has a hose in and a hose out. A small length of pipe will let you unplug the heater core and plug the "in" to the "out" and you are bypassed.  I remember replacing mine, it was a job

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
