Hello All! I’m struggling to find an answer to this question, hoping a member can help. Can I swap the crankshaft from a 1966 429 w/TH400 to my 1964 429 w/TH400 trans? I came across an article that said that the flywheels are the same but the bolt spreads are slightly different. If that is the case, can I swap the flywheels too. I do have both flywheels.

Backstory: I rebuilt the engine recently after it sat for 30-40 years, then drove the car about 4 miles and spun the #8 rod bearing. Now the engine is back on the stand. I pulled the crank last night and see damage on the journals. It’s going to need to be replaced or turned again. My heart is broken, but my will is not! Any feedback you guys would be willing to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Jacob

As far as crankshafts I can only confirm that the Master Parts Book lists a different crankshaft between 64-65 vs 66-67. I am not sure what the difference is.

If you cannot find a crankshaft I can put you down for one on my Wait List. I would also post a listing here in our Wanted forum for a 1964-65 429 Turbo Hydramatic Crankshaft.

Keep in mind there were 2 crankshafts in 1964, one for the Hydramatic equipped cars (Series 62, 75 Series, Comm. Chassis), and one for Turbo HydraMatic equipped cars (deVilles & Fleetwoods).  I'm guessing you already knew that but you definitely want the THM version if pulled from a 1964 Cadillac.

Thank you for the feedback Jason! I found that the connecting rods, rod bearings, and main bearings all appear to be the same from 64 thru 66, so I’m wondering what could be different about the cranks between those years. Perhaps it’s just the bolt spreads on the flywheels.

I have a crank for you if the shop determines yours in not repairable.

Awesome, thank you Russ! How much would charge with shipping to Spring Hill, FL (Tampa area)

Whats the zip code?  Please email me at russ@thecadishack.com if you are interested.

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
