Hi,

I am participating in the 2026 Great Race and we were planning to drive in a car of a buddy of mine but unfortunately the car experienced last minute mechanical issues so will be not ready for the race in 12 days.

So we will us my Cadillac Eldorado 1964, which is in very good conditions, but last minute we would like to buy some spare parts in case we get some issues during in the 10 days 2500 miles rally.
Can you advise where I can buy spare parts below (in bold) for the Cadillac?

Bill gave me a list of what he thought we should bring for the race, verbally. I typed off a memo to myself, below.

Fan belts
Condenser points extra set
Cap and rotor
Brake pads
Extra spark plugs and change them now if they're older.
Battery ends, new battery?
Oil and oil change
Fuel filter check
Coolant and anti freeze not too watery
No cracking in power steering hoses
Vacuum lines check and bring vacuum line caps just in case.
Spare tire and jack
Front lube of joints and tie rod ends
Check transmission fluid for no burning smell. Bring extra
Check rear end for gear oil.

Any parts store is going to have these items, or can order them in.

Here is a list of things to check and replace before your trip  If they have not already been done recently   Pack  the front wheel bearings with grease  replace  wheel cylinders & brake hoses  front and rear. Replace worn out brake shoes.  Replace the drive belts , Replace radiator hoses and heater hoses, Whats the condition of your radiator? does it need Repair ?  Replace power steering hoses if old or they show signs of leakage.  Rebuild carb if its questionable  Tune the engine  before your trip,  plugs wires cap & rotor, set dwell and timing. Change fuel filter,  check the water pump for seepage out the weep hole. Replace any old vacuum hoses . Check steering linkage & tie rod ends dose the steering sector leak? new battery if old,Replace battery cables if the ends are the ones you clamped on with two bolts after stripping the cable those things can be a problem. whats the condition of your starter and alternator You want to eliminate as many possible problems that you can before you leave home its easier when its in your shop then out on the road. Remember auto parts stores will have no parts on hand for a 62 year old car!            I would bring an extra water pump, fuel pump, fuel filter. Bring fittings  to connect or block off your heater hoses if your heater core springs a leak. Bring trans fluid, engine oil,  couple gallions 50/50 antifreeze mix.  I have prepped my 84 Fleetwood Diesel in this way and just completed a 3500 mile trip with no problems to and from the Grand national show  in north Carolina. I have always wanted to run the great Race,  Good luck and have Fun  P.S I have New old stock Delco Remy ignition points and a new designed condenser that is tested .The ones available from auto parts stores aren't very reliable.  I perform ignition work so i always test new condensers for capacity series resistance and leakage. again have a fun time.

Thx, very helpful.

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
