Harmonic balancer

Does anyone know how the harmonic balancer sits, is it flush with the crankshaft or is there 1/4" before it sits flush.

Yep..that's exactly the way mine looks.

Here's a pic of mine if that helps. The timing gauge will slightly overlap the edge of the balancer. This pic is from an angle in order to see the balancer but you should be able to eyeball it from the same vantage point.

Robert, The best way I can describe the balancer final position, is that the outer ridge of the balancer will go just slightly past the lip of the timing gauge on the front cover. In fact if you take a razor blade or say a gap filler gauge and put it between the timing indicator and top ridge of the balancer, it will tilt back slightly.   Looking at the balancer where it goes into the engine, you do see about 1/4" of the groove in front of the front cover seal.
