I have a question, I had my tranny rebuilt and I was expecting a price in the neighborhood of maybe $600-$700 max, I just got the actual bill at $1600.00. I am a little concerned, is that what it cost to rebuild one of these tranmissions or is this way over.

He did say he had to replace two clutches, but I am having a challenge swallowing that price.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That's probably less than I just payed last summer to have mine rebuilt. And now mine makes a beautiful grinding noise when I really get into it, plus it still leaks.

I had a transmission rebuilt in my 1990 Chevy Pickup truck ((guess it was a 700R4?) a few years back and it was about $1800.  You are rebuilding a 49 year old 1963 and prior transmission so that is definitely not a bad price. I've heard the 1964 and later turbo hydramatics are usually a bit less but for a complete rebuild you wouuld probably still be looking at something in the range your person is asking to rebuild the older Hydramatic. You might give the guys at Fatsco a shout and see if they have any other options in terms recommended rebuilders, expected prices, etc.  They are listed in our Parts Suppliers page as a very reputable transmission parts supplier.

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
