Hi all,,,, would someone please close the back door!! You're lettin the cold air in! Supposed to get 8-10 inches of snow tomorrow.

On another note, I've been working on my 6way seat. I just want the darn thing to move forward and back. Here's what I've done so far.

Verified the motor turns by putting 12v. to the green and yellow wires.

Disassembled, cleaned  and greased the transmission.

Disassembled and cleaned all contacts on the switch. Verified 12v gets to the plug under seat.

Verified seat rail wasn't stuck by attaching  drill to black cable to move seat back and forth a little.

Installed new ground wire from seat rail to bolt on floor.

When I hit the switch, I can hear the solenoids snapping but I can see no movement in the shaft of the motor, forward or back.

Seems like I'm almost there but just can't get over the hump. Any suggestions???? Oh, I'm doing this with the seat in the car,,,, wifes not quite strong enough to assist in getting it out of the car. I think I'm gonna take up yoga since I'm becoming a contortionist. What the hecks the secret to getting that thing out without tearing things up???

Thanks for any words of wisdom.

Tom, I have a1963 style relay. I Just sent you a reply. Jason.

You indicated you verified the motor turned by bench testing. You know from the switch the solenoids are engaging since you hear them click which confirms that at least 1/2 the switch feeds (#4 green, #2 blue and #5 white wires on Page 16-112, Fig 16-139 in 1963 shop manual) are working and would guess the other wires (1 red, 6 yellow, 3 pink) to relay are getting their feed.  My guess is you have a bad relay.  Either way it will not hurt to clean the switch as Russ indicated. If you need a relay let us know. Either me or Russ may have the 63 style relay (different mounting bracket from 64).

Hi Russ. I've taken the switch apart and completely cleaned all the contacts. All the fingers and points look as they should. I really feel the switch is ok. Will recheck the ground and keep pursuing.

Thanks

Thanks Jason. Sounds like i have it set up pretty much like you describe. Just seems like i should see a little movement on the motor shaft. I'll take the cables off and give it a shot.

I think you might have posted it else where but are you getting any movement (front up & down, back and forth or rear up and down)? From description it seems motor turns disconnected and bench tested but connected to the transmission it is binding and not turning. You do hear the actuators working but something is preventing the motor from turning?

I would disconnect all 6 cables at the seat rails and run all 6 movements (front up & down, back and forth, and rear up and down) and observer the cables at the end to see what is turning.

Also as far as the rails when I pull in a parts car I will blow out all debris with compressed air, spray tracks with compressed air, and take a drill and use a short left/driver side cable to move go through all the actuators movements front completely down to completely up on front and rear actuators and from front to back on the center one and spray with white lithium grease as I go.

To get under the seat I've unbolted and just flipped backwards but run a ground to the rails.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
