OK so my Rochester is on the 57 Fleetwood not the 64 but I know I can get some feedback here on the problem... Carby went off the car and went for a refurb. Engine would not idle and the idle screw would do nothing. There was no bakelite spacer which I believe feeds the air to the mixture screw but now have installed that. Carby back from refurb on it goes and same deal.. The idle screw does nothing and the engine blows lots of black smoke at idle (too rich I assume).. Any ideas what is wrong with this carby?? I have had an idea to quick swap the carter off the 64 and try it --- would that work? cheers all

this is now fixed... took the Rochester 4 jet to a fella I met in the caddy club - aircraft engineer - new his stuff - at the bottom of the accelerator pump there was a small part missing. he made up a replacement and off we went. cold start easy as ....
ok thanks gents all good info... Russ yes its very minor seepage. will keep on it. Dan it seems finding a good carby rebuilder is just as hard in US as it is in Melbourne!
thanks Russ thats interesting info. I noticed the difference compared to the carter. Now I have also noticed at the base of the carby some small amount of fuel. This is an indicator that the shafts are worn I assume? It is a pity since its been overhauled but its obvious those shafts were not done. Are they easy to fix and change?
thanks Russ - when you say leak at the bottom do you mean from worn out shafts or is there some other problem they develop?
ok pulled carby off. pulled it apart. not good since I just paid for it to be overhauled. blew out the needle and seats. rechecked and adjusted the floats (one side just out). reassembled and reinstalled, changed spark plugs. blew out the shite in the exhaust and engine and it seems to now be OK. I can now adjust the idle with the mixture screws....

ok thanks Russ... I may need this explained to me of course - a vacuum leak would that not increase idle and lean out the mixture? I understand it may depend where the leak is. Also I was thinking of float level? Does the Rochester 4 jet have any know issues of overfueling or leaking fuel at the base? Any feedback or ideas would help I would like to fix this and show the car off!

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year , There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A What is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.
