My 64 Sedan DeVille has a turn signal problem. The right front turn signal will not function, but all the rest work perfect. I have changed the bulb and cleaned the socket with no luck. I used a 12 volt tester and the socket is dead. I tested behind the socket and the wires have no juice either. Could it be the turn signal switch? I should mention that I have only had the car a few months and it was not working when I bought it. Thanks for any advice?

I agree with you 100%. These old Cadillacs still are showing everyone that they are the Standard Of The World. Amazing machines in EVERY way.

Good news!! Today I finally had time to work on the 64. I did a continuity test and all the wires from the firewall to the socket were fine. This told me that the problem was under the dash. I found a black box at the base of the steering column that is connected to the turn signal lever. There are many wires coming out of this. I used electrical contact cleaner and the lights now all work and perform as they should. I was VERY lucky that this fixed my problem, and hope it might help others with a similar problem.

I will for sure let you know when I it get figured out. If you get yours fixed first, please share what found also. When I have time, I plan to trace the wiring all the way back until I find power, and fix it from there. See what happens, good luck with yours.

I have the exact same problem with the right front turn signal, all the other lights work the cornering light  the top of fender orange indicator light,  checked the bulb the ground etc. but haven't  had much time lately to trouble shoot , I would be interested in the nature of your problem if you get  it to work.

Hi Jason,

All turn signals and parking lights work except for the right turn signal. Even the right parking light comes on. I did test the blue wire and shows no voltage. Since all other signals work , I agree with your idea that the switch is working. Should I consider new turn signal wire from the fire wall forward? I understand that I must ensure there is power coming from the firewall first of course. Thanks for any input.

Questions:

Is the park light working? Or, is both front right park and turn signal light not working?

Have you supplied 12 volts directly to the turn signal (blue wire) contact and park light (white wire) contact on the light side connector to confirm it would if the connector had 12 volts?

I ask because you can resolve one problem and still have other problems. You need to confirm if you had 12 volts the lights would work.

Next: If your right rear turn signal works when signal lever is engaged I would think it would be something other than the switch. If both front and rear turn signal do not work I would think it would be the switch. Of course it could be a bad connection anywhere in the circuit but eliminate the easy stuff first and know what works and what doesn't.

There appears to be some kind of felt washer around the top of my oil dipstick, presumable to seal off the dipstick tube. I've looked around the usual parts suppliers but came up empty. There's not…Continue

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
