1964 Series 60 Special, No Heat, BRRRRR!

Hi all and Happy Thanksgiving.

Driving the Big Blue Girl the other day and noticed I am not getting any heat. Took the heater control valve out and got a little movement out of it when applying vacuum. Seemed a little corroded but not bad. With the hand held vacuum pump, {self bleeder}, I was blowing through the unit and it did open and close.

I put it back in and noticed not much to no vacuum coming from the red vacuum line to the top of the diaphragm whether on 65 or 85.

Any ideas?

Thank you all so very much for your help and suggestions. Can someone please tell me where I can acquire Cadillac Tim's Comfort Control Manual?

Picked up a new Hot Water Valve on EBay for $75, OPGI want $130 I believe,  and as I suspected it didn't help. Old one needed replacement anyway.

I have a feeling I am having flow issues. Even though I am not getting much suction {vacuum} from the red line going to the Hot Water Valve, that should leave the valve open allowing flow through into or out of the Heater Core. I am not sure which direction the flow travels. I do know that with a warm engine, the Hot Water Valve side hoses are hot but the hose traveling under the valley to the water pump is cool whether the wheel is on 65 or 85, heat or defrost.

My mechanic suggested a possible heater core blockage. Heater Core is probably the factory original. He is suggesting to reverse the flow at the core to see if it would loosen and clear a clog just enough to get some kind of flow to indicate a clogged up core.

Makes some sense to me. Will try on Tuesday.

Another possibility may be clogged vacuum lines. My Dad suffered from this back when we had our first 64, 60 special. He took them out and blew them out and lots of crap came out. Seems like a more involved process. Will check the Heater Core first.

I have already pulled my after market radio and EQ out of the glove box in preparation of further diagnostics. I will keep all of my brothers and sisters here up to date on my progress or lack there of.

If this is the hot water control valve you can complete remove it, replace with straight thru pipe, plug vacuum ends and bypass it completely to rule it out or until you can get another good one. My 64 CDV has been setup like this for years until I can go completely through the Comfort Control System using Cadillac Tim's 1964 Comfort Control Diagnostic manual listed on our Help Topics Page.
