Car turns over, won't start

There is spark at the coil and at plug 1 (I didn't check the other plugs.). Seems there is fuel, but then seems to be exhausted when craving over.

Comment by Scott Santora on April 6, 2024 at 11:59am: Without being there, it sounds like a fuel problem. Without trying to start the car, look into the carb as you pump the throttle by hand. See if there is a stream of fuel. If not, probably little or no fuel in the float bowl or bad accelerator pump. If there is a strong stream of fuel, Needle and seat, float, probably ok. Have you checked for fuel pressure? Might be as simple as a fuel pump. I believe it should be around 5- 6 psi.

Comment by Russ Austin on April 6, 2024 at 10:38am: Sounds like it is starting, but stops running. Does the float bowl have fuel? Turn the ignition on and test for 9 or move Volts at the + side of the coil. I suspect the ignition switch is bad.

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
